Netflix new releases coming in October 2024

It's spooky season! And while Netflix gets into the spirit of Halloween and horror in October 2024, the month also sets the stage for the triumphant returns of FOUR fan-favorite Netflix original series. The fall television season might be in full swing on the small screen, but Netflix has its own full-force lineup of exciting shows, too, on top of movies, docuseries, and more!

Outer Banks season 4 probably ranks as the most popular Netflix original series premiering in October, with Heartstopper season 3, The Lincoln Lawyer season 3, and The Diplomat season 2 also bookending an excellent month of binge-watching. When it comes to Netflix movies in October, the stars are aligning big time for romance, chills, thrills, and big action.

Heartstopper season 3

Release Date: Oct. 3

The globally adored teen romantic drama series Heartstopper opens October on a lovable note with the debut of its highly anticipated third season. When we last left Nick and Charlie in the season 2 finale, they were seconds away from telling each other "I love you." In season 3, the realities of the school year and impending changes university brings way on Nick, Charlie, and all of their friends and their relationships. The new season will tackle Charlie's personal struggles while also exploring a maturity in his relationship with Nick. Once again, Heartstopper season 3 contains eight episodes that you don't want to miss!

Outer Banks season 4 part 1

Release Date: Oct. 10

The Pogues are back! It's been a long time coming for Outer Banks to make its comeback with season 4 after the February 2023 premiere of season 3. For the first time, the teen adventure series will see a season split into two parts. The first half of season 4, which contains five episodes, arrives on Oct. 10, while the second half, also containing five episodes, finishes up the story in November. Join the Pogues on their next adventure tracking down Blackbeard's treasure and see what they were up to during that almost two-year time jump!

Lonely Planet

Release Date: Oct. 11

Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth starring in a romance movie? Yes, please! The Oscar-winner and the action star headline the new Netflix original movie Lonely Planet, which centers on an author looking for inspiration to get out of a writing rut on a retreat in Morocco. Well, she seems to find some inspiration when she meets a younger man and has something of a personally reinvigorating love affair. Lonely Planet makes its premiere on Oct. 11, and it's definitely a must-watch with these two talented stars in the lead!

The Lincoln Lawyer season 3

Release Date: Oct. 17

Not only are the Pogues back on Netflix in October, but Mickey Haller's also back with a new case! The Lincoln Lawyer season 3, which had previously been pegged for a release in 2025 following delays from the strikes, managed to make its return this fall. There's plenty of gas left in the tank of Mickey's Lincoln yet! In the new 10-episode season, that's not being split into two parts, Mickey takes on the murder case of his friend Glory Days. It's going to be another season full of mystery, twists, and turns, and it all begins on Oct. 17.

Woman of the Hour

Release Date: Oct. 18

It's always exciting when a super-talented performer takes the next step in their career and expands their artistic vision. That's happening in October on Netflix. Pitch Perfect star and Academy Award-nominated actress Anna Kendrick makes her feature directorial debut with the period crime thriller Woman of the Hour. Kendrick also stars in the movie as Cheryl Bradshaw, a woman who made an appearance on The Dating Game unknowingly with a serial killer. Kendrick's latest movie will surely deliver some much-needed spooks right in the middle of spooky season!

Time Cut

Release Date: Oct. 30

Speaking of spooky season, horror movies It's What's Inside, The Platform 2, and Don't Move all lead up to the premiere of Time Cut on the day before Halloween. The young adult horror-thriller features Ginny & Georgia star Antonia Gentry and Outer Banks star Madison Bailey, and it's truly the Netflix star team-up we didn't know we needed. The movie centers on a teenager who time travels to the early aughts to prevent her sister's death at the hands of a killer. Who else just got chills?!

The Diplomat season 2

Release Date: Oct. 31

There's nothing scary about this Halloween release: The Diplomat is back with season 2 on Oct. 31! Keri Russell's Emmy Award-nominated role as Kate Wyler in the fan-favorite political thriller has to be one of the most anxiously awaited returns of the year. She's just so good in this role, and it's by far one of the best Netflix shows of the decade so far. The new season will bring changes and even more challenges for the Wylers as they attempt to keep their heads above water. The Diplomat season 2 also boasts Oscar and Emmy Award winner Allison Janney as Vice President Grace Penn. Get ready for all of the political drama to unfold on Halloween!
