The White Tiger: Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar
The nominees for Best Adapted Screenplay are very enthralling features. The Borat sequel is absolutely hilarious, timely, and well-written and could very well take home a win. One Night in Miami and The Father are also brilliantly curated when it comes to rating, so there nothing to sleep on. Nomadland is obviously the heavy favorite, but one nomination feels like it could change the game with a victory.
The White Tiger is a film that made the top 10 list in 64 countries and has seen significant praise since its release. The story is a riveting ordeal, to say the least, but it absolutely feels like this script is the one worthy of receiving the Oscar in 2021. The inspiring narrative is a much-needed escape from the trying times the world finds itself in, and the writing could very well be recognized with an Oscar in April.
The Midnight Sky: Best Visual Effects Oscar
The Visual Effects category at the 2021 Academy Awards has the wildest lineup of nominees. Disney’s Mulan and The One and Only Ivan look like legitimate contenders were either could take home a win. Love and Monsters was definitely a surprise to see make the list and has some solid visuals to back up its chances for victory. Christopher Nolan’s Tenet seems like the favorite to win, but Netflix’s entry shouldn’t be counted out just yet.
The National Board of Review called The Midnight Sky one of the 10 best films of 2020 and received praise for its ambitious, emotional tone. George Clooney’s lead film has been nominated for its excellence in Visual Effects at BAFTAs, VES Awards, Critics Choice Awards, Hollywood Critics Choice Awards, and the Satellite Awards. A win in this category for the Netflix feature would be a shocker, and it’s not outside the realm of possibilities for it to happen.
