The Rotten Tomatoes Critics Consensus calls One Night in Miami  “a hauntingly powerful reflection on larger-than-life figures,” noting that King is vividly in “full command” of her craft throughout this moving film, and we’d tend to agree with that take.

One Night in Miami was written by Kemp Powers and is based on Powers’ 2013 award-winning play of the same name. As noted in The Guardian, the powerful and poignant film imagines “what happened when the four men were brought together in real life” for one fictional night to celebrate Ali’s monumental win.

As you might’ve guessed, that imagined celebration turns out to be about so much more than one night. But of course, you’ll have to watch One Night in Miami on your own to fully appreciate all that’s happening in this complex and well-crafted flick. It’s only a matter of where.
