The second half of the year is shaping up to be a huge one for Netflix. Subscribers have been feeling a bit of the dry spell caused by the production strike in these past few months, but that will change in the second half of 2024 according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Co-CEO Ted Sarandos revealed that several big Netflix Original series, like Outer Banks, Squid Game, and Emily in Paris, are expected to return in the last six months of the year. Sarandos shared the news during the streamer's first quarter earnings call on Wednesday, April 17.

Below we highlighted the 10 shows mentioned by Sarandos on the call as confirmed to release later this year. While we already knew the majority of these series were on track for a 2024 release, it's nice to have narrower window (July-December) to expect them than just "sometime this year."

Squid Game season 2

Ratings juggernaut Squid Game is set to return this year after making its initial debut back in September 2021 as part of that year's Netflix & Chills line-up. Perhaps Netflix will aim to duplicate the success of season 1 by launching season 2 around the same time, meaning a September or October 2024 date.

The ending of season 1 and the early clip shown of season 2 set-up a tense showdown between Gi-hun and Front Man after Gi-hun intercepts a recruitment card from The Recruiter trying to get another person to compete in the games. You can watch the clip here.

The Night Agent season 2

As of early April, filming on The Night Agent season 2 was reportedly halfway done, so it sounds like the show is still on track for a late 2024 premiere date and now Sarandos has confirmed it! We don't know when Peter will return to us, but it sounds like it could be this fall or winter.

The end of season 1 saw Peter officially becoming a certified "night agent" after successfully saving the President, and in season 2 we'll get to see him on a new globe-trotting adventure that takes him to Thailand, where production has been filming. Season 2 will also introduce new characters played by actors like Brittany Snow, Amanda Warren, Teddy Sears, Michael Malarkey, Keon Alexander, and more.

Cobra Kai season 6

Cobra Kai season 6 is finally coming to Netflix later this year. It’s been a long time since we saw Ralph Macchio, William Zabka, Xolo Maridueña, Mary Mouser, and the rest of the great cast back at the dojo. The cast and crew started filming season 6 in February 2024. We haven’t heard that production has ended, but it’s great that Sarandos confirmed the series would return in the second half of 2024.

Unfortunately, this is the final season of the Netflix series. Hopefully, they’ll be able to stick the landing and end this extension of The Karate Kid movies on a high note.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story

After the insane success of the Ryan Murphy series Monster: A Jeffrey Dahmer Story starring Evan Peters in the titular role, it came as no surprise when Netflix swiftly renewed the anthology crime drama for two additional seasons, the first of which will focus on the story of Lyle and Erik Menendez.

American brothers convicted of murdering their parents in 1996, the pair are currently serving life in prison without the possibility of parole. Cooper Koch and Nicholas Alexander Chavez will star as Erik and Lyle. Additionally, the cast will also feature Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny as their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez.

Emily in Paris season 4

All three seasons of Emily in Paris have come out late in the year, either in October or December, so it's likely that is a good estimate for the timeframe of when season 4 will come out. I also wouldn't be surprised if Netflix decided to split the season into two parts.

When we last left off with Emily, things were in a shocking and dramatic place between most of the couples. Camille broke things off with Gabriel in the middle of their impromptu wedding, revealing she knew he still had feelings for Emily and that she's pregnant. After that bombshell, Alfie, not wanting to be a second choice to Gabriel, dumps Emily.

Outer Banks season 4

The cast and crew actually started production on Outer Banks season 4 during the writers’ strike and a month or so before the actors’ strike. Compared to most of the Netflix shows affected by the strikes, Outer Banks should be one of the shows nearing the end of filming, which is a good sign for the show hitting Netflix sooner rather than later.

John B and the Pogues will be back in season 4 and probably up to no good. The season 3 finale featured an 18-month time jump before the Pogues are approached with an interesting offer to try to find Blackbeard’s treasure. Count us in!

The Diplomat season 2 is also expected this year as it was shown multiple times in the "Next on Netflix" teaser released by the streamer, but Sarandos didn't mention it in the earnings call.

New shows like the limited series The Perfect Couple starring Nicole Kidman and Liev Schrieber based on Elin Hilderbrand's novel of the same name and the Brazilian show Senna about the Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna, starring Gabriel Leone and The Gentlemen's Kaya Scodelario. Additionally, the upcoming western series American Primeval from Peter Berg is also expected to debut later this year.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, we won't get specific dates for these shows for "a while," but at least the recent comments from Sarandos tell us that they'll be out in Q3 or Q4, meaning the second half of the year, specifically during the last six months of 2024.

Stay tuned to Netflix Life for more updates on all of these shows and more!
