It’s a big day for Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, as Netflix has announced major news regarding the future of their latest shows. Monster, which is now billed as an anthology, will be getting two additional seasons, and The Watcher season 2 is also confirmed.

DAHMER – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story premiered in September and was an instant hit for the streamer. Evan Peters portrayed the infamous serial killer as the show chronicled his life, including his murders, prison sentencing, death, and the aftermath. Though the American Horror Story alum was applauded for his performance, the series also received backlash from the victims’ families, who allegedly did not give their approval.

Monster and The Watcher renewed for more seasons

Netflix says the next seasons of Monster will follow “other monstrous figures who have impacted society,” though it hasn’t been confirmed which figures these are. We speculate the next season could be about John Wayne Gacy considering the serial killer did make a small cameo in The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, plus Netflix has already done a season on him for their Conversations With a Killer docuseries. But as we don’t know for sure, this is just a prediction.

At the time of this writing, The Jeffrey Dahmer Story has reached over 934 million hours viewed, with the streamer reporting today that the show is on track for 1 billion hours soon.

As for The Watcher, the dramatized version of the real-life New Jersey story debuted in October and also generated a lot of buzz. It will be interesting to see what the second season will be about, as the real-life Watcher was never found and the story remains an unsolved mystery. Netflix does not note that it’ll be an anthology, so we can probably expect to follow the Brannock family once again.

The Head of Global TV over at Netflix, Bela Bajaria, says of the renewals:

"“Audiences can’t take their eyes off Monster and The Watcher. The creative team of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan on Monster along with Eric Newman on The Watcher are masterful storytellers who captivated audiences all over the world. The back-to-back force of these two series is due to Ryan’s distinct original voice which created cultural sensations and we are thrilled to continue telling stories in the Monster and Watcher universes.”"
