It's been a quiet start to 2024 for new Netflix shows. Netflix hasn't released the volume of new releases that we're used to seeing coming out of the writers' and actors' strikes ending in the fall of 2023, but there are still several great new Netflix shows subscribers need to check out.

Our team at Netflix Life is watching all of the Netflix new releases for 2024. If you're looking for what to watch, you can't go wrong with these new shows. We'll be updating this list of the best Netflix shows of the year as more new shows are added to the streaming service.

Let's get the list of the best Netflix shows of the year so far started with The Gentleman starring Theo James.

The Gentlemen

  • Release Date: March 7, 2024
  • Created by Guy Ritchie
  • Cast: Theo James, Kaya Scodelario, Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson, Giancarlo Esposito, Vinnie Jones, and more

The Gentlemen is the most recent addition to Netflix. The new Netflix original series is based on Guy Ritchie's movie of the same name, so if you liked that movie, you're going to love this new show.

There's no doubt The Gentlemen is one of the best Netflix shows of the year so far. It's early days, but this should be one of the more popular shows of the first half of the year, too. It has a good cast, led by James who most fans will recognize from the second season of The White Lotus. James is at his best in The Gentlemen, which tells the story of a crime family James' character, Eddie must lead following the death of his father, the Duke of Halstead.

It looks The Gentlemen season 2 is already a possibility! I won't spoil the ending, but I'm confident if enough viewers tune in that Netflix will be renewing the series for season 2 shortly.

Watch The Gentlemen if: you like Guy Ritchie, modern crime/gangster shows and movies, Peaky Blinders, and Ozark.

  • Cast: Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley, Dallas Liu, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Ken Leung, Daniel Dae Kim, Lim Kay Siu, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Elizabeth Yu, Thalia Tran, Momona Tamada, and more

Avatar: The Last Airbender is a live-action Netflix original series based on the animated series of the same name created by Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino, who were originally signed on as producers for the Netflix original series. They left the series, citing creative differences.

Avatar: The Last Airbender keeps the same premise as the original. With no Avatar to keep the world in balance, the Fire Nation launches attacks on the Water Tribe, Earth Nation, and Air Nomads to take control and seize power. Aang, played by Gordon Cormier, a young Air Nomad, is the next Avatar, but he has to avoid capture from the Fire Nation and learn to hone his skills and power to bring back peace.

The series premiered on Netflix at the end of February 2024, and it's been a huge hit so far! Over one week, Avatar: The Last Airbender racked up 21.2 million views and more than 150 million hours streamed on Netflix. Avatar: The Last Airbender season 2 and season 3 are officially in the works on Netflix.

Watch Avatar: The Last Airbender if: you're a fan of the original animated series, fantasy shows and movies, and incredible effects and CGI.

  • Cast: Amy Cortés, Johnny McIntyre, Chelsea Blackwell, Jimmy Presnell, AD Smith, Clay
  • Gravesande, Brittany Mills, Kenneth Gorham, Laura Dadisman, Jeramey Lutinski, Trevor Sova, Matthew Duliba, Jessica Vestal, and Sarah Ann Bick

Love is Blind season 6 premiered on Valentine's Day 2024, and it's been one of the best Netflix shows of the year so far. It's easily the best reality TV show of the year, not just on Netflix, but on all of TV!

Netflix has been dropping new episodes of Love is Blind every Wednesday in February and March so far. The season finale was released on Wednesday, March 6. The season 6 reunion has already been filmed, and it will be released on Netflix on Wednesday, March 13, at 9 p.m. ET and 6 p.m. PT.

Season 6 has been one of the most dramatic seasons of the show so far. This cast in particular has been a bit messy. We had multiple love triangles in season 6, and it caused a lot of chaos. Since the season premiered, there have been allegations that several contestants were actually seeing other people when they went into the pods. Several contestants will appear on Perfect Match season 2. There's just so much going on. It's actually been one of the best seasons, too! We're waiting until the reunion to see where things land for these contestants before we move up season 6 to No. 1 or No. 2 on our ranking of the best Love is Blind seasons so far.

Watch Love is Blind if: you love messy reality TV shows and also love! There's a little bit of both in season 6!

One Day

  • Release Date: Feb. 8, 2023
  • Created by Nicole Taylor
  • Cast: Ambika Mod and Leo Woodall

You've seen the One Day story before, but you've never seen it like this! One Day is based on the book of the same name by David Nicholls. Anne Hathaway starred in the movie adaptation of One Day, which premiered in 2011. Now, more than a decade later, Netflix has the TV version of One Day, and it's much better than the movie, which is good. I'm not saying the movie is bad, just that the show is better.

Leo Woodall and Ambika Mod star in One Day as Dexter and Emma. The story plays out over one day every year when these two lovers cross paths. It's not all sunshine and roses in this love story, though. You'll just have to watch it (but have some tissues ready!).

I'm not a casting director, but I do think that Woodall and Mod should be in, ya know, more movies and shows. They are so good in this Netflix original!

Watch One Day if: you like love stories, romance, and a good tear-jerker!

Griselda

  • Release Date: Jan. 25, 2024
  • Created by Doug Miro, Eric Newman, Carlo Bernard, and Ingrid Escajeda
  • Cast: Sofia Vergara, Alberto Guerra, Vanessa Ferlito, Martín Rodríguez, Alberto Ammann, Gabriel Sloyer, Christian Tappan, Juliana Aidén Martinez, Karol G, Julieth Restrepo, Maximiliano Hernández, and more

Griselda was one of the most highly anticipated Netflix shows coming in 2024. It does not disappoint! The series was created by the team who created Narcos. It's based on the true story and life of Griselda Blanco.

Sofia Vergara stars as Blanco in the series. It follows Blanco's roots with Colombian cartels before moving to Miami and starting her own operation stateside. Blanco became one of the most powerful drug lords in the world during the 1980s.

Vergara is so good in this series and delivers the best performance of her career.

Watch Griselda if: you like Narcos, Sofia Vergara, and shows and movies about drug lords, the drug trade, and cartels.

  • Release Date: Jan. 1, 2024
  • Created by Danny Brocklehurst
  • Cast: Michelle Keegan, Dino Fetscher, Richard Armitage, Joanna Lumley, Adeel Akhtar, Emmett J. Scanlan, Marcus Garvey, Dänya Griver, Natalie Anderson, Daniel Burt, Adelle Leonce, and Joe Armstrong

Fool Me Once kicked off 2024 in a big way for Netflix. We know how much viewers love Netflix shows based on Harlan Coben's books, and Fool Me Once doesn't disappoint. The series delivers a thrilling mystery with a satisfying plot twist and conclusion.

The series follows Maya Stern, played by Michelle Keegan, who is trying to move on after the murder of her sister and husband months apart. When Maya sees her deceased husband on a baby monitor while she's not home, she tries to find out if he's really dead or what is going on.

I'm a big fan of Coben's shows, and Fool Me Once is really good!

Watch Fool Me Once if: you like Harlan Coben's Netflix shows!

As mentioned, we'll update the list as more new shows are released on Netflix!
