Meet the cast and characters at the heart of Netflix series The Gentlemen

Guy Ritchie's 2019 crime movie The Gentlemen has spawned a spinoff of the same name and it just premiered on Netflix, enticing viewers to get caught up in this darkly funny British gangster drama.

Theo James and Kaya Scodelario are especially excellent in the lead roles, with James cast as a second son, Eddie Horniman, who becomes the unwitting heir to a sprawling estate and Scodelario playing the cunning Susie Glass, daughter of Bobby Glass, owner of a massive cannabis empire. Susie is maintaining the business while her father is in prison and it just so happens that Eddie's newly acquired property is housing a secret grow house part of the overall Glass empire.

Who is Eddie Horniman? James takes the lead role of Eddie Horniman, the second son of the Duke of Halstead. Given his status in the family lineage, Eddie never would have expected to inherit anything from his father, anticipating that the estate would go to his older brother, Freddy. A former British Army Captain, Eddie is shocked when he suddenly inherits the Halstead family estate and learns he must now wrestle with various criminal responsibilities.

Where have you seen Theo James before? Theo James started gaining prominence when he was cast as Tobias Eaton in the YA dystopia series Divergent, based on the book series by Veronica Roth. From there he went on to star in Underworld: Blood Wars and the HBO show The Time Traveler's Wife (which has, sadly, been scrubbed from streaming). That said, his most notable role these days is likely for season 1 of The White Lotus, where his performance earned him an Emmy nomination. He's also done a few voice-acting roles for Netflix with The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf and Castlevania.

Kaya Scodelario as Susie Glass

Who is Susie Glass? Cast in the female lead of the show, Kaya Scodelario takes on the role of the posh yet fierce Susie Glass, daughter of criminal kingpin Bobby Glass. Chic, stylish, and often cheeky, Susie and Eddie cross paths when Eddie's father passes and leaves him the estate, which includes a significant marijuana farm, one of many owned by the Glass enterprise. While her father is in prison, Susie handles the day-to-day business and when the family business is threatened, she has no doubt in her mind about where her priorities lie.

Where have you seen Kaya Scodelario before? Most people probably recall Scodelario from her time on the E4 series Skins where she played the breakout character Effy Stonem. After that, Scodelario has mostly starred in movies like the Maze Runner trilogy, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Crawl, Wuthering Heights, The King's Daughter, and Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. On the television side, she starred in the Netflix show Spinning Out, which was canceled after just one season, but still has a loyal fanbase on social media.

Daniel Ings as Freddy Horniman

Who is Freddy Horniman? Freddy is the eldest son of the Duke of Halstead and was all prepared to inherit the estate and its vast 15,000+ acres before his father surprised the entire family by passing it down to his second son, Eddie, instead. Without the estate, Freddy is left in a weird limbo and floundering without much purpose. He also saddles his brother, the newest Duke of Halstead, with a bunch of immediate problems during his first day on the job.

Where have you seen Daniel Ings before? Like Theo James and Kaya Scodelario, Daniel Ings has starred in a few Netflix series already, including Lovesick, The Crown, Sex Education, and Black Mirror. On the film side, some of his most notable credits are The Marvels and Eddie the Eagle.

Joely Richardson as Lady Sabrina

Who is Lady Sabrina? Joely Richardson portrays Lady Sabrina, the widow of the former Duke of Halstead and Eddie's mother. As he acclimates to his new position as Duke, Eddie finds himself leaning on his mother and looking to her for advice. She's quite intelligent and grows increasingly concerned about her son becoming further entrenched in the Glass' criminal enterprise. Sabrina does have some secrets of her own, however, that she's kept close to her chest.

Where have you seen Joely Richardson before? I'll always have fond memories of Joely Richardson as Julia McNamara on Ryan Murphy's (best) show Nip/Tuck, but beyond that she's also been in series like The Tudors and Netflix projects such as The Sandman and Lady Chatterly's Lover. She even guest starred in an episode of the recent hit One Day. Other credits: 101 Dalmatians, Event Horizon, Red Sparrow, The Turning, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

What's next? We don't know for sure, but I imagine that Richardson will be back for the new episodes of The Sandman. She also stars in the upcoming Disney+ series Renegade Nell.

While he comes off as rather stoic, he's very loyal to the Halstead family and becomes a rock for Eddie as navigates his challenging new circumstances.

After his football career, Vinnie Jones transitioned into a successful acting career with notable performances in projects like Snatch, Gone in 60 Seconds, Year One, Arrow, X-Men: The Last Stand, and She's the Man. Giancarlo Esposito as Stanley Johnston

Who is Stanley Johnston? The character of Stanley Johnston is one of the most notable meth dealers around, but he's also obsessed with the British aristocracy and history. He often rubs elbows with the Euorpean royals and spends a lot of time in London's most exclusive gentlemen's club. He takes an interest in the new Duke of Halstead and, in particular, the stake he has in Bobby Glass's empire.

Where have you seen Giancarlo Esposito before? The Gentlemen is just one of several projects Giancarlo Esposito has worked on for Netflix. He previously starred in the series Kaleidoscope and voiced Faraday in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. But his most notable role to date is playing Gus Fring in the acclaimed drama Breaking Bad, a role that earned him multiple Emmy nominations. He also appeared in the prequel show Better Call Saul, The Boys, The Mandalorian, Godfather of Harlem, and Once Upon a Time. Where have you seen him before? Funnily enough, Winstone happens to star in another Netflix Original that release the day after The Gentlemen. He plays the father of Millie Bobby Brown's character in the dark fantasy film Damsel.
