That ’90s Show release date, cast, trailer, synopsis, photos, episode count, and more
We have some excellent news for fans of That ’70s Show. Netflix announced plans to make a That ’70s Show spinoff, titled That ’90s Show! And now we know when it’ll come out!
This is obviously incredible news for fans of the original sitcom that starred Topher Grace, Laura Prepon, Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, Wilmer Valderrama, and more.
Unlike That ’70s Show, That ’90s Show is a Netflix original series and will only be available to stream on Netflix.
That ’90s Show is created by Bonnie Turner, Terry Turner, Gregg Mettler, and Lindsay Turner. You might know Bonnie and Terry as the co-creators of the original series. For the spinoff, their daughter Lindsay joined the creative process. Gregg Mettler also has ties to That ’70s Show with him being a producer. For That ’90s Show, Gregg signed on as showrunner.
We shared everything else we know about That ’90s Show so far.
That ’90s Show release date
Many fans of the original series were hoping that the spinoff would come out sometime in 2022, but unfortunately, that’s not the case. The good news, however, is that we won’t have to wait too long to see what the characters have been up to all these years! Netflix announced That ’90s Show will be released on Jan. 19, 2023.
That ’90s Show cast
The first cast members to be announced for the spinoff were Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp, who played Red and Kitty in That ’70s Show. It was reported that they’d be reprising their roles as Red and Kitty in the spinoff. On Feb. 3, the actress who will be playing Eric and Donna’s (Topher Grace and Laura Prepon) daughter was announced along with five other teen actors.
According to Deadline, Callie Haverda will be playing Leia Forman. Ashley Aufderheide, Mace Coronel, Maxwell Acee Donovan, Reyn Doi, and Sam Morelos will be playing Leia’s new friends. Then, on April 30, it was reported that most of the main cast from That ’70s Show would return as special guest stars in the spinoff.
Here’s the regular cast list below:
- Debra Jo Rupp as Kitty Forman
- Kurtwood Smith as Red Forman
- Callie Haverda as Leia Forman

Ashton Kutcher spoke in an interview about the decision he and wife Mila Kunis made about returning to reprise their roles. We can’t wait to see Kelso, Jackie, and the gang back together!
That ’90s Show trailer
On Dec. 22, Netflix gave fans an early Christmas present in the form of the first official trailer for the new spinoff. The trailer offers a glimpse at Leia’s arrival at her grandparents’ house and introduces viewers to all of her new friends (and the trouble they get up to).
But it’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for: The trailer teases the reunion of Eric, Donna, Kelso, Jackie, and Fez. For the first time since the series was announced, the preview clip show what the gang has been up to since the original ended, and it’s going to be a nostalgic blast.

Along with the release date announcement, we also got the first teaser for That ’90s Show, giving us a glimpse at Kitty and Red in the ’90s and their grandchildren who we’ll get to know.
Will Hyde (Danny Masterson) be in That ’90s Show?
Trigger Warning: Sexual Assault
Steven Hyde was a fan-favorite character in That ’70s Show, but don’t expect him to make a return in the upcoming sequel show. That’s because the actor who played him, Danny Masterson, was arrested in 2020 and charged with multiple accounts of sexual assault. Fans of the TV show were incredibly disappointed to hear the news.
Netflix basically cut all ties with Masterson back in 2017 when they fired him from The Ranch after he was accused of sexual assault.
That ’90s Show synopsis
Netflix shared the synopsis of That ’90s Show, and the premise is interesting!
Check out the synopsis, via Netflix, below:
"Hello, Wisconsin! It’s 1995 and Leia Forman, daughter of Eric and Donna, is visiting her grandparents for the summer where she bonds with a new generation of Point Place kids under the watchful eye of Kitty and the stern glare of Red. Sex, drugs and rock ’n roll never dies, it just changes clothes."
Are Jackie and Kelso married in That ’90s Show?
According to Mila Kunis, yes! In a new interview with Access while promoting her Netflix original movie Luckiest Girl Alive, Kunis spilled that she and real-life husband Ashton Kutcher acted alongside each other as their That ’70s Show counterparts as an on-screen couple.
In the original series, Jackie (Kunis) and Kelso (Kutcher) were an on-again, off-again couple for multiple seasons. Jackie also dated Hyde and Fez, and she ended up with Wilmer Valderrama’s latter character. Kunis playfully joked that she called BS on Jackie and Kelso being married with a teenage child. She assumed Jackie and Fez would still be together.
And yes, you read that right! Jackie and Kelso are the parents of a teenager, according to Kunis. It’s unclear what part their child will play in the series, since Eric and Donna’s daughter, who’s the main character of the sequel, is also a teenager.
That ’90s Show photos
In addition to the trailer, Netflix also gave fans the first images of Topher Grace, Laura Prepon, Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, and Wilmer Valderrama in the new series.
Wilmer Valderrama took to Instagram on July 20 to share a script from That ’90s Show, admitting that he might have some trouble getting back into character. “Now if I could just remember the accent,” he wrote, along with a winking face emoji. Check out his post below!
On July 29, series lead Callie Haverda announced on Instagram that the first season wrapped filming. The Leia Forman actress shared photos from the set, along with a snap of the colorful collection of scripts from shooting the season’s 10 episodes.
Netflix has released first-look photos at the spinoff. Check them out below!
That ’90s Show episode count
The first season will consist of 10 episodes total. The episode runtimes are unknown, but we’re hoping each episode is at least 30 minutes long. That ’70s Show episodes were in the 20-minute range, so there’s a possibility the spinoff will do the same.
Is That ’70s streaming on Netflix?
Fortunately, That ’70s Show fans who are hoping to binge-watch the original series before checking out the new spin-off on Netflix will be able to. The sitcom finally returned to streaming this September but is currently available on Peacock only, not Netflix.
