Nobody Wants This quickly proved its title incorrect when the Netflix original romantic comedy series premiered on Sept. 26. After racking up millions upon millions of viewing minutes since it dropped, the show actually confirmed that everybody want this. And what everybody wanted immediately after watching the charming first season was a second season.

Thankfully, Netflix delivered on that front and announced the Nobody Wants This season 2 renewal on Oct. 10, just two weeks after the show initially premiered. Of course, the series stars Kristen Bell and Adam Brody as a star-crossed couple navigating their relationship amid pressures from family, friends, and Noah's career as a rabbi... since Joanne isn't Jewish.

From creator Erin Foster and loosely based on her experiences converting to Judaism, Nobody Wants This has helped many millennial women feel seen through the show's vulnerable exploration of intimacy and relationships. The show will continue to do so with its highly anticipated second season, which is expected to release in 2025. Here's what to know so far!

Nobody Wants This season 2 will release in 2025

According to Netflix's press release for the renewal, Nobody Wants This season 2 will be released sometime in 2025. Foster told The Hollywood Reporter that the writer's room had been working on season 2 for "about three weeks" ahead of the official renewal announcement from Netflix. Prior to the season 2 green light, Netflix have the series' writer's room a green light to begin work.

However, because the writers have gotten a head start on crafting the stories for season 2, that doesn't mean we will be receiving the episodes in our watch lists any sooner. Foster estimates that Nobody Wants This could return by September 2025, marking an annual fall launch for the new hit series. That turnaround tracks for the series, a half-hour comedy with no visual effects.

Here's what Foster told The Hollywood Reporter about season 2's 2025 launch, joking about keeping the release timed to the Jewish New Year holiday:

"It takes so much longer than you would ever think. It’s basically going to be coming back, probably, in September again next year. Once a year, the same time, we’ll be really consistent. We’re just going to be a Rosh Hashanah launch, always."

Erin Foster, creator

Keep in mind, September 2025 is merely a prediction right now. Nobody Wants This season 2 could very well premiere a bit sooner, but it all depends on when production begins. According to series star Adam Brody, filming will begin in February 2025, and he predicts the season could drop again in September. Once cameras begin rolling next year, we'll fill you in on the latest updates!

The main cast members will return

What's Nobody Wants This without Kristen Bell and Adam Brody? We'll never have to know! Both stars are back for season 2 as Joanne and Noah, as are fellow series regulars Justine Lupe and Timothy Simons as Joanne and Noah's siblings. Other supporting cast members and guest stars are sure to return, with other new characters and guest stars likely, too.

Here are the season 1 main cast that's all confirmed to return for season 2:

  • Kristen Bell as Joanne
  • Adam Brody as Noah Roklov
  • Justine Lupe as Morgan
  • Timothy Simons as Sasha Roklov

In addition to the four main cast members, Nobody Wants This also features a rich supporting cast that are all expected to make appearances in season 2. There are potential promotions to series regular status that could occur (manifesting a larger presence for Jackie Tohn as Esther!), but any promotions and other casting announcements haven't been revealed just yet. (Fingers crossed for cameos from Leighton Meester and Dax Shepard!)

These are the recurring cast members we can expect to see in season 2:

  • Jackie Tohn as Esther Roklov
  • Sherry Cola as Ashley
  • Shiloh Bearman as Miriam Roklov
  • Stephanie Faracy as Lynn
  • Michael Hitchcock as Henry
  • Tovah Feldsuh as Bina Roklov
  • Paul Ben-Victor as Ilan Roklov
  • Emily Arlook as Rebecca
  • Stephen Tobolowsky as Rabbi Cohen

There will be a bit of a behind-the-scenes shuffle in season 2 as Foster steps down as co-showrunner with Jack Burdit. In season 2, Girls team Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan will take over as showrunners, which leaves Foster more time to focus on writing the series and maintaining its voice moving forward.

As she explained to The Hollywood Reporter, "I really needed to focus on being the voice of the show, and the writing. Being showrunner is like the job of 10 people." So, don't worry that Nobody Wants This will be losing anything without Foster at the helm. If anything, the series will be gaining something major with Konner and Kaplan's expertise in the mix.

Warning: Spoilers ahead from the season 1 finale!

What to expect from season 2

By the end of the first season, Joanne and Noah's romantic stakes come to a head as Noah moves ahead with his new job opportunity as head rabbi. Joanne isn't completely sold on converting to Judaism just do be with Noah; she wants to honor the religion (and herself) and be sure about converting. It seems like an impossible impasse with no timely solution.

While Joanne tries to break things off so Noah doesn't have to make any sacrifices for his career, Noah chases after her and they get back together. Still, neither of them know what to do next or what will come next. The stakes are the same, but this time, they're committed to tackling the unexpected together. Season 2 will pick up in the aftermath of the season 1 finale decision.

Foster said Nobody Wants This season 2 will pick up relatively soon after the season 1 finale. It might not be the same exact night, but the momentous feeling of "How do we do this?" will remain when we reunite with Joanne and Noah. There won't be a lengthy time jump that answers a lot of questions offscreen. As Foster says, "I think this is a show where you want to get what you want; you don’t want to be f-cked with. I’m not trying to dangle things and not give them to people."

We can surely expect further explorations of Joanne and Noah's family situations, with more stories planned for both Morgan and Esther. Sorry to those who have been "shipping" Morgan and Sasha, but Foster squashed any hopes of a potential romance. Their weird feelings for each other will "wrap up" and the writers will "pull back and reposition" the characters for season 2.

Erin Foster already has ideas for season 3

Apparently, work on season 2 has been going so well that Foster has been bookmarking potential storylines for a third season. Even though she had imagined an engagement or marriage for Joanne and Noah at the end of season 1, Netflix suggested the writing team slow down the story, which has lent to the show's excellent pacing. There's no doubt we'll get to see those season 3 stories!

Here's what Foster told The Hollywood Reporter about season 3 ideas:

"I’d like to be employed as long as possible, I guess. There are a lot of stories to tell. It’s funny because, we’ve been in the writers room and so we’re working on storylines, and we keep coming up with storylines and being like, 'That’s for season three. That’s for season three.' And we’re like, 'Should we just make a board and pitch out season three to them at the same time?' Because, we have ideas."

Erin Foster, creator

It's always wonderful to hear from creators who have plans for future storylines without flying by the seat of their pants. At the same time, it's also great to know that Foster has been malleable to collaboration in order to create the best possible product. We can't wait to see the masterpiece she and the team have in store for the second season of Netflix's best original comedy series.
