There couldn't be a more must-watch television event for millennials in 2024 than Nobody Wants This. The Netflix original romantic comedy series teams up Kristen Bell and Adam Brody for the mismatched love story of an agnostic podcast host falling for a handsome rabbi. It's the ultimate will-they-or-won't-they romance with a killer sense of humor and actual emotional stakes.
Obviously, Kristen Bell and Adam Brody were the stars of two of the most popular teen drama series of the early aughts. Bell's breakthrough role arrived in the UPN/CW detective drama Veronica Mars, while Brody's came in the form of the tongue-in-cheek teen soap The O.C. Both shows are bonafide millennial classics! Not to mention, Bell also narrated The CW's Gossip Girl.
Speaking of Gossip Girl, in real life, Brody has been married to the erstwhile Blair Waldorf star Leighton Meester since 2014, and the couple has two children together. Bell has also been married to fellow actor Dax Shepard since 2013, and they have two children together as well.
Those of us who are fans of the powercouples were likely looking out for Meester and Shepard cameos. Unfortunately, Bell and Brody's real-life spouses didn't pop up in season 1.
During a promotional interview for Nobody Wants This with Entertainment Tonight, Bell and Brody were asked about the likelihood of their talented spouses making cameo appearances in a potential second season of the romantic comedy series. Thankfully, the likelihood sounds pretty good!
"Not much for Dax," Bell mused when asked what it would take to get her husband on board for a season 2 cameo. "Just make it real easy on his schedule." Taking his co-star's casual lead, Brody seemingly promised, "I can deliver Leighton." I mean, it's all but set! Bell joked that they could just tell Dax and Leighton that they're coming for lunch and start shooting a scene. Whatever it takes!
Admittedly, as a fan of the Bell-Brody-Meester multiverse of teen dramas who came of age with their work, I was keeping my eyes peeled for Meester to make a cameo at some point in the first season. Whether as one of Noah's exes or one of Joanne's friends or honestly anyone. Meester has the perfect sense of humor to fit in with the show's comedic sensibilities.
Once Bell's friends Ryan Hansen (also her Veronica Mars co-star) and D'Arcy Carden (also her The Good Place co-star) made cameo appearances, I was slightly more convinced that Shepard could pop up at a moment's notice. However, Bell's real-life podcaster husband didn't sneak his way into this one. At least not yet!
Recently, Shepard has taken a step back from acting and directing to focus on his successful podcast Armchair Expert, which he co-hosts with Monica Padman. Just this year, Shepard signed a new deal for the podcast with Amazon's Wondery. If he happened to make an appearance in Nobody Wants This season 2, a rival podcast host would be the funniest role possible.
As for Meester, she most recently starred in the Netflix movie The Weekend Away, the survival movie River Wild with Brody, and Freevee holiday rom-com EXmas. Next up, she'll appear in The CW's procedural dramedy Good Cop/Bad Cop, which will premiere in 2025. Brody last guested in Meester's tragically short-lived ABC comedy Single Parents, so perhaps it's time to return the favor.
