Emily in Paris season 6 begins filming, but there's a bittersweet catch

Filming has started on Emily in Paris season 6 in Greece as Lily Collins shared a special announcement with fans about the show's future.

Just as tradition serves, Lily Collins announced the start of filming for Emily in Paris season 6, like she has with each season of the Emmy Award-nominated Netflix original rom-com series. However, the announcement about season 6 being in production came with a secondary announcement that fans likely saw coming but have also been dreading.

Collins, Netflix, and Emily in Paris creator Darren Star made the bittersweet announcement that Emily in Paris season 6 will be the final season of the show. That's right, Emily has just one more chapter left before it's over and her endgame arrives. When Netflix renewed the show for season 6 earlier this year, "final season" wasn't mentioned, but now it's officially the end.

Filming began on the final season in late May 2026, as behind-the-scenes photos of Collins and Star on set in Greece were also shared alongside the announcement. As fans know, Gabriel invited Emily to join him in Greece at the end of season 5, and based on the cast touching down in Greece to film part of the season, we can venture to assume Emily said yes.

In her video announcing the final season news to fans, Collins said, "After six unforgettable years of playing Emily Cooper, I'm here to share that this upcoming sixth season will be our final. Season 6 will bring you everything you love about the show and serve as the final chapter in Emily's adventure of a lifetime. Our entire cast and crew are pouring our hearts into making this a fantastic farewell season, which we're now filming. I can't wait for all of the magic ahead, and to celebrate our final season with you in the most chic way yet. We're so incredibly grateful and we love you all. A bientot!"

Star also released a statement about Emily in Paris season 6 being the final season, expressing his gratitude to the production partners that brought the show to life as well as the fans who welcomed these larger-than-life characters into their homes. Even though Collins and Star spoke directly to fans, they were careful not to spill the beans on any season 6 spoilers.

Along with Collins, the rest of the main cast are expected to be back for the last hurrah, and we should also expect some fun and exciting guest stars—perhaps even some characters we haven't seen in a while. Collins' tease that season 6 will be "the most chic" has us wondering whether the series could be planning something major for the end of Emily's story. Not to jump to conclusions, but what's more chic than a wedding? We'll have to stay patient to see what's in the cards for our girl.

After beginning production in May 2026, Emily in Paris season 6 will wrap filming in September 2026. That sounds like a tight turnaround for the season to be released before the end of the year, but Netflix has already confirmed that the season will drop in 2026, likely in December. Netflix hasn't revealed official release plans, including whether the season will drop all 10 episodes at once or in two parts.

Emily in Paris becomes just one of the many fan-favorite, long-running Netflix shows that have been confirmed to end with their next seasons. Both The Night Agent and The Lincoln Lawyer will end with season 4 and season 5 respectively, though until the rom-com series, those final seasons will begin streaming on Netflix sometime in 2027. Instead, Emily joins Outer Banks, The Witcher, and more beloved Netflix shows that will say goodbye to fans before 2026 ends.
