New Netflix movies and shows coming in May 2022

As spring starts to transition into summer this May, our watch lists will be in for some of the biggest and most highly anticipated new Netflix movies and shows of the year.

Of course, we’re referring directly to Stranger Things, which kicks off the release of its long-awaited fourth season with the first of two volumes over Memorial Day weekend. Beyond the tentpole series release, Netflix has some great originals movies coming, too.

Below we’re sharing the list of the new Netflix movies and shows releasing in May.

New Netflix movies May 2022

Some of the biggest movie releases on Netflix in April were The Bubble, Metal Lords, and Choose or Die.. But the streamer kicks off summer with two new originals, Operation Mincemeat starring Colin Firth and Senior Year starring Rebel Wilson.

Operation Mincemeat

Release Date: May 11

The British war drama comes from director John Madden and stars Oscar winner Colin Firth as Ewen Montagu. The film takes centers on the titular operation during World War II. Operation Mincemeat also stars Matthew Macfayden, Kelly Macdonald, Penelope Wilton, Johnny Flynn, and Jason Isaacs. It’s sure to be another critically acclaimed war drama when it premieres May 11.

Senior Year

Release Date: May 13

Rebel Wilson stars in the comedy film Senior Year as a former cheerleader who happened to wind up in a coma just before her big prom. Two decades later, she comes out of her coma and returns to her high school to rightfully claim her prom queen crown. The cast also includes Justin Hartley, Sam Richardson, Zoë Chao, Avantika Vandanapu, Chris Parnell, Alicia Silverstone, and Michael Cimino.

New Netflix shows May 2022

There’s no doubt that Stranger Things is the definite showstopper of May on Netflix, but there are so many other great new Netflix shows premiering in the month. Namely, Mike Myers makes a comeback in the limited series The Pentaverate.

The Pentaverate

Release Date: May 5

Mike Myers stars in the six-episode limited series as eight — that’s right, eight! — different characters. The Pentaverate centers on a Canadian journalist looking to expose the truth about a dangerous secret society. Beyond Myers and his eight characters, the cast also features Ken Jeong, Keegan-Michael Key, Debi Mazar, Richard McCabe, Jennifer Saunders, and Lydia West.

Stranger Things season 4 vol. 1

Release Date: May 27

What’s left to be said about Stranger Things? Fans have been waiting to varying degrees of patience (and understandably so) for the fourth season. At long last, the pop culture phenomenon returns after almost three years away with the first half of season 4. The remaining episodes will release in July, with the fifth and final season to follow.
