Stranger Things canceled: Stranger Things season 5 to be show’s final season

When Stranger Things first debuted back in July 2016, no one could have ever predicted the series would be the show that would help to truly put Netflix on the map.

Following its release, the series quickly became one of the most-watched and most-talked about shows in all of the worlds as a breakout hit that launched the careers of its talented young cast. Ever since that first season dropped, the fandom has only continued to grow with the series remaining a top performer for Netflix and one of the most beloved Netflix Originals ever to grace our screen.

The anticipation for season 4 has been unlike anything we’ve seen before and the good news is that we finally know the first part of the new season will be coming in May — on May 27 to be exact. A second part will then follow on July 1, with Netflix looking to split up the highly anticipated season into two parts.

While that’s the good news, in announcing the show’s season 4 release date, Netflix also confirmed some not-so-exciting news about the show’s future.

Is Stranger Things canceled?

Technically speaking, Stranger Things has been canceled but not in a way that will fail to bring a conclusion to the show. As confirmed by Netflix on Feb. 17, Stranger Things has been renewed for a fifth and final season which is a bright way of saying the show has been canceled but is ending with a planned final season.

Is Stranger Things season 4 the last season?

Fear not! While Stranger Things will be coming to an end soon, Stranger Things season 4 will not be the last season of the hit series. Instead, the season will be the penultimate season of the show used to set the stage for the show’s final season.

Is Stranger Things season 5 the show’s final season?

Stranger Things season 5 will indeed be the final season of Stranger Things. Netflix has made it clear the show will end with its upcoming fifth season, meaning there will be five seasons total of Stranger Things. 

While we’ve learned to never say never with Netflix after it handed out a bonus season to Lucifer after previously billing its fifth season as its final season, The Duffer Brothers have long stated their plans for Stranger Things to run for four-five seasons.

Now that Netflix has billed season 5 as the show’s last, it’s unlikely anything will change.

When will Stranger Things season 5 premiere?

At this time, Netflix has not announced when Stranger Things season 5 will premiere only that a fifth season has been ordered and that it will be the show’s final season.

It’s possible we could see the final season arrive as early as 2023; however, it’s more likely the season won’t arrive until 2024 given the show’s history of seasons multi-year breaks between seasons.
