The Boss Baby: Back in the Crib release date, first look, synopsis and more

Who would have thought that a seemingly random animated movie about an enterprising baby CEO would spawn a franchise that includes at least one movie sequel (a potential trilogy in the making) and now two television spin-off series? Yes, Netflix just announced that a second Boss Baby show is coming out later this year: The Boss Baby: Back in the Crib.

The new show will follow the events of the 2021 movie The Boss Baby: Family Business. So in case you need to keep tabs on the chronology of The Boss Baby series, it goes:

• The Boss Baby (2017)
• The Boss Baby: Back in Business (2020)
• The Boss Baby: Family Business (2021)
• The Boss Baby: Back in the Crib (2022)

The latest entry into the franchise is a CG animated series executive produced by Brandon Sawyer, with Matt Engstrom serving as the supervising producer. Like the other projects in the series, the upcoming 2022 cartoon will be animated by DreamWorks Animation.

Tune in on Thursday, May 19, 2022, to watch the entire first season of the new animated series! Netflix has not released casting news for the show yet, so it’s not clear who will voice the titular role. While Alec Baldwin voices Ted in the movies, JP Karliak voiced the character in the previous series and based on the photo captions for the first look images from the new show, and it looks like Karliak is returning.

Here is the official synopsis for the new show, courtesy of Netflix:

"Following the events of The Boss Baby: Family Business Theodore Templeton is framed for embezzlement and forced to revert back to his old Boss Baby self and crash with his brother Tim and his two nieces, brainy big kid Tabitha and fellow Baby Corp employee Tina. Together, Boss Baby and Tina co-lead a new Field Team fighting to increase Baby Love while keeping a new group of arch-nemeses – The Uncuddleables – from destroying Baby Corp itself."
