Will Netflix release Lucifer season 5 in July 2020?

The wait for Lucifer season 5 continues as we enter summer 2020.

If it had not been for COVID-19, new episodes would have already arrived, most likely. At the very least, we’d know the Lucifer season 5 release date by now. The health of the cast and crew is more important than our impatience, though! But is the wait nearly over?

When the release date for Lucifer season 5 wasn’t announced in April or May, we knew we were likely in for a long wait. It’s now June, and all we know is that the premiere date announcement is coming “soon,” but this was three weeks ago. Could “soon” mean July?

Here’s what we know!

July fits “soon,” as it has already been three weeks since this promise, but it’s such a relative term.

Regardless, because we haven’t heard the release date for Lucifer season 5 yet, there’s a good chance we won’t see the new season in July.

We already know many of the big titles coming to Netflix in July, including The Kissing Booth 2, The Umbrella Academy, and The Baby-Sitters Club. Lucifer is bigger than all of those, except maybe The Kissing Booth, so we have to assume Netflix would have announced the Lucifer season 5 release date already if the season was coming in July.

Lucifer season 5 release date on Netflix: Late summer or early fall?

Deadline recently broke the news that Warner Bros. is hosting a DC FanDome Virtual Experience that will feature talent from multiple DC films, TV shows, and even comic favorites!

Who is included in this bunch, you may ask? Lucifer, of course! And to ease any doubts, Deadline includes Lucifer right along with Doom Patrol, The Flash, Teen Titans Go!, and other DC favorites we can’t wait to learn more about.

Needless to say, fans of Lucifer will be wanting to tune in on Aug. 22 at 10 a.m. PT to catch the DC FanDome Virtual Experience live and be one of the first to learn what updates will be offered for Lucifer season 5.

We’ll be sure to keep you posted on any updates about this DC FanDome Virtual Experience! But, could this mean a premiere date for Lucifer season 5 won’t be announced until late August? Unfortunately, yes.

It’s possible that we won’t know the release date until late August, which means Lucifer season 5 may not premiere until early fall 2020. That’s probably the worst-case scenario at this point.

Will we have to wait that long for the release date announcement? Probably not.

There’s also the possibility of a release date being announced in July, or even later this month. If that happens, we could see Lucifer season 5 in the late summer, like August, before or after the DC fan event.

An August release date for Lucifer season 5 is probably the most likely scenario based on everything we know right now, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

Then, the big Lucifer news that we’ll get during the DC FanDome Virtual Experience is a season 6 renewal!

As always, we’ll keep you updated on anything Lucifer season 5 and beyond.
