Netflix canceled One Day at a Time after three successful seasons. Will another network save One Day at a Time and renew it for a fourth season?

Netflix canceled One Day at a Time after three seasons. This news wasn’t entirely surprising. We knew One Day at a Time was on the chopping block, according to reports, but it’s still a bummer that it came to this.

This might not be the end of the line for One Day at a Time. While most think Netflix is making a big mistake canceling such a good series, the word is that Sony Pictures TV is shopping the show to other networks. If another network is interested, One Day at a Time might now be gone for too long.

I do think One Day at a Time will be picked up for another season. Even if the show has low-ish viewership, there is enough of a fanbase online that the cancellation and renewal announcements might give new life to the series on its own. It’s like a “thing” now, and that is only a positive when it comes to adding viewers. More people are discovering the show every day.

We saw a similar situation with Brooklyn Nine-Nine after it was canceled at FOX. NBC picked up the series for a new season, and then the series was renewed for another season recently.

On top of that, I also think networks, especially in this competitive time in the streaming age, are looking for goodwill. If Hulu or Amazon wants to add a new group of subscribers and instantly build some brand loyalty, reviving One Day at a Time is the move to make right now.

That might be a more cynical view, though, and unfortunately, that’s the time we live in with these TV networks.

One Day at a Time doesn’t need any help getting renewed for another season at a different network, but this is a business, and a cutthroat one at that, and most of these networks and the moves they make are so calculated. If One Day at a Time can make them money and bring viewers, then the series has a good chance of coming back. If not, then it’s probably the end of the road.

And, that’s such a bummer because this show is so good and it’s so important to a lot of people. Hopefully, a network will step up and renew this series for season 4. I think there’s a very good chance of that happening, especially after Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s situation last year.

We’ll be sure to let you know if that does happen in the near future. Stay tuned!
