Stranger Things 2 premieres on Friday, Oct. 27 with nine new episodes, one more episode than what was in season 1 and we’re so thrilled. The bigger season is going to continue the story from the first season but it’s going to be so much darker and character-focused. The series also picks up one year later, so we’re set in 1984 Hawkins, Indiana where Eleven is missing, Will is recovering from his traumatic experience and a darkness falls across the land as Halloween hits. You want answers, so here’s everything we know so far (spoiler-free) so you are prepared for your weekend binge-watch session.

Sequel, not season 2

The Duffer Brothers want fans to know this is more of a sequel than a second season. This is why it’s being referred to as Stranger Things 2 and not Stranger Things season 2. It may seem like a small detail but it’s an important one to note.

Episode Titles

The episode titles for the last three episodes weren’t named in this trailer, but there was an earlier clip that suggested the titles were “The Secret Cabin”, “The Brain”, and “The Lost Brother.” It remains to be seen if those titles are still the titles or not. Our best guess what all the episode titles mean.

New monster

Season 1 saw the Demogorgon emerge from the Upside Down and terrify audiences. Eleven defeated the faceless creature with a venus flytrap for a head, so we know that creature is gone, but a new monster emerges from the clouds. As seen in the trailers and posters, there is an ominous and large figure that is already causing nightmares. We do know it’s being called the shadow monster. We don’t know where it came from or how to defeat it. We’ll have to watch on Oct. 27.

Stranger Things 2 storyline

We don’t have a lot of details about the new episodes but we do know it’s going to be bigger and better than the first eight episodes. That’s a high bar to clear, but it’s going to happen. There will be more visual effects, thanks to the shadow monster, and the plot is going to be darker and more horror-oriented.

New Characters

Sadie Sink, Dacre Montgomery, Sean Astin and Paul Reiser join the cast. Sadie Sink plays Max, a girl described as a tomboy who loves to skateboard. We don’t know much about Montgomery’s character Billy, although he’s sure to cross paths with Steve, Nancy and Jonathan at high school. Astin plays Bob Newby, a former classmate of Joyce and a possible love interest? Reiser plays Dr. Owens who is sent by the government to clean up the mess Dr. Brenner left behind at Hawkins, Indiana.

The future

As soon as people finish binge-watching Stranger Things 2, the question turns to when new episodes will be available. The good news is Netflix has already renewed the show for season 3 and it could least four seasons with the possibility of the show ending with season 5. Season 3 won’t be released until next summer or fall, but an official date won’t be revealed until likely next spring.
