3 Western drama Netflix shows like Ransom Canyon to watch next

Netflix truly delivered this summer with the release of Ransom Canyon season 2. Returning to the titular Texas ranching town and reuniting with all of the characters and their drama was nothing short of an incredible treat for fans of both Westerns and romantic dramas.

While Ransom Canyon is cut from the same cloth as the likes of fellow Netflix original series Virgin River and Sweet Magnolias, the series definitely has more of an edge than both of those titles. It's part of the reason that fans simply can't get enough of its twists, turns, and hot, hot heat!

But once you finish watching Ransom Canyon season 2, you're going to be left wanting more. You could rewatch both current season or dive into other romantic dramas. However, you can also lean into the Western vibe with three recent Netflix shows you might have missed.

The Abandons (2025)

Unfortunately, Netflix doesn't have a ton of modern Western series with a romantic drama slant, but there are some great period pieces to explore. In December 2025, Netflix released the Western drama The Abandons, which takes place in the Old West amid a tense feud between two opposing sides. They battle over land ownership and personal vendettas. Sound familiar?

The Abandons came from Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter and starred Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson as dueling matriarchs. On one side, there's the wealthy head of a well-off family and the scrappy de-facto mother to a group of orphans scraping by. Long history and new betrayals bring the two heads of household to an ultimate showdown for control.

Due to behind-the-scenes struggles and a lukewarm release, The Abandons only produced one seven-episode season. If you don't like watching shows that end with a cliffhanger, this might not be for you. But if you like a shocking, open-ended conclusion, jump into the Netflix Western drama, which shares a lot of themes with Ransom Canyon despite the time gap.

Territory (2024)

From one underrated and short-lived series to another, Netflix also tried its hand at the Neo-Western genre in October 2024 with the Australian series Territory. Again, this series contains a lot of thematic and story similarities with Ransom Canyon, though it's missing the lighter romantic drama tone that reels you in with emotional investment. Still, it's a gripping watch.

Territory takes place in the Northern Territory of Australia and focuses on Marianne Station, the largest cattle station, and the family who owns and operates the legendary farm. However, the Lawson family becomes the targets of various entities threatening to take control of Marianna Station, causing all kinds of rivalries to come to a bitter, brutal, and deadly light.

Like The Abandons, this series didn't fare much better with its future. Territory only had a singular six-episode season that ended with many questions unanswered. Obviously, that's frustrating for viewers after committing to a series, but Territory offers a satisfying viewing experience regardless of the outcome of its final episode. There's nothing wrong with a show leaving you wanting more.

Little House on the Prairie (2026)

Last but certainly not least, Netflix's latest Western drama series is another period piece but no less worth watching for fans of Ransom Canyon. Plus, as a bonus, it's much more family friendly than any of the other titles on this list. The streamer's Little House on the Prairie reboot quickly became a hit upon its release in July 2026, and fans still can't get enough of the nostalgic revamp.

Most Westerns tend to feature a lot of violence since battles and feuds are a common theme. Little House on the Prairie doesn't contain some of the common storytelling that's featured in the genre or even the fellow Netflix shows above. But you will still feel immersed in a certain time period, a different world that's sure to leave you captivated by the emotional and complex family stories.

Unlike The Abandons and Territory, Netflix's Little House on the Prairie isn't a one-and-done series that's left on a cliffhanger. Thankfully, the streamer already renewed the show for a second season, so you can binge-watch the first season and rest assured that another season is on the way. Fingers crossed that Ransom Canyon follows suit with its own renewal from Netflix.
