Prepare to do a celebratory dance Wednesday Addams style, because there's lots of exciting news to share for fans of the Netflix original series! If you have been waiting ever so impatiently for Wednesday season 2 to finally be released, well, we're one step closer to returning to Nevermore Academy. Filming has officially wrapped on season 2!

According to a report from What's on Netflix, the highly anticipated second season completed production on Nov. 29. The occasion was reportedly announced by a crew member who shared a graphic on social media, which featured a thank you message from Wednesday herself: "I offer my thanks for the many hours of blood, sweat and ominous lighting that went into this production."

Obviously, Wednesday isn't one to show much emotion, so she made sure not to give her "grim companions" the wrong idea: "If I had the capacity for warmth, I might even say it was a pleasure. But let’s not get carried away." But can totally get carried away with excitement that Wednesday season 2 feels closer than ever now that filming has ended once and for all.

Production on the followup-up season of the Emmy-nominated series began back in May 2024, which put the series on pace for a 2025 release. There's so much to look forward to in season 2, including a new cast members and an appearance from a major pop superstar, but there's also a series tie-in book that just might give fans an idea of when season 2 could drop.

Wednesday: Book of Outcasts coming in May 2025

Along with the news that season 2 wrapped filming, news also arrived that a new companion book for the series will be released in 2025. From Penguin Random House, Wednesday: Book of Outcasts will be released on May 6, 2025. The book was written by Ally Russell and the show's writers and promises an "official guide to Nevermore Academy."

Here's how the publisher describes the 80-book, which is available to pre-order now:

"Nevermore Academy is home to Outcasts of all kinds, from the colorful werewolf Enid Sinclair to the persuasive and beautiful siren Bianca Barclay. Uncover their mysterious world with fun facts, profiles, talents, and more in this character guide based on the hit show.

Enter the mysterious world of Nevermore Academy with this full-color, hardcover guide to the first season of the global phenomenon. Go on a deep dive into Wednesday Addams’s friends and foes, Nevermore Academy, the town of Jericho and the Addams family. Peruse the complete guide of Outcasts seen in the show: psychics, Hydes, gorgons, sirens, werewolves, and more! Featuring in-depth character profiles, facts on each Outcast clique, complete coverage on their supernatural abilities—and notes from Wednesday Addams herself—this book is a must-have for curious fans."

Since the book comes out in May 2025, that could give us an idea of when Netflix could be releasing season 2. The second season might not come out the same week as the book (which would be Thursday, May 8), but it's reasonable to assume and estimate that the show's return won't be too far off from the book's release. It's the perfect promotional tool for season 2.

Following filming's wrap just ahead of the holiday season, Wednesday season 2 will now enter the post-production process for many months. This includes editing, special effects, audio dubbing, and other movie magic that prepares the episodes for global streaming on Netflix. It's hopeful that that turnaround time for Wednesday won't be dragged out longer than necessary.

That being said, a release in early May 2025, or even May at all, might be wishful thinking. We can hope that post-production could be completed by the spring or summer, but Netflix already has a packed scheduled of original series returning next year that will need to be spread out. Being so, Wednesday could be making her long-awaited comeback sometime in the fall.
