There's an exciting update about Shameless' future on Netflix

While everyone loves when their favorite shows become available to watch on Netflix, there's not always a guarantee of how long they will last on the streamer. Some shows hit our watch lists for a limited time, whether one or two years, and others are seemingly available for an unlimited amount of time, like Grey's Anatomy. But plenty more are subject to the unpredictable nature of licensing.

Earlier this summer, reports suggested that the Gallagher family was about to be evicted from Netflix. Shameless had been targeted for removal from Netflix after spending 10 years streaming on the platform. The full 11-season series was expected to leave the streamer before the end of 2026 barring a licensing renewal from Warner Bros., but there's thankfully a positive update.

Shameless isn't leaving Netflix in 2026 after all

According to a new report from What's on Netflix, the streaming service and Warner Bros. have reached a new deal to keep the Showtime original comedy-drama on Netflix for a longer period of time. Shameless will no longer leave Netflix in October 2026, though the specifics of the deal haven't been revealed. But fans don't have to worry about the Gallaghers leaving in the near future.

Unfortunately, Shameless has already been removed from Netflix in other international territories and the renewed licensing deal isn't confirmed to extend to these regions at this time. There's no doubt that with a show as popular and beloved by fans as this one, the series will have a place to land for international viewers before long, whether that's back on Netflix or another platform.

Shameless has called Netflix its streaming home in the United States for a decade and counting, and a vast portion of that tenure included in-season runs prior to the show's series finale in 2021. It's remained a big draw for repeated viewings among fans in the half decade since ending. If the series had been removed, it was popularly believed to wind up on Warner Bros.' streamer HBO Max.

Netflix has kept busy renewing streaming licenses for popular television series. This summer, the streamer also made sure to keep Seinfeld in its ranks, as the iconic sitcom was set to leave this year. However, the comedy now gets to enjoy another five years (at least) on Netflix. Shameless now joins the sitcom in being one of the fan-favorite classics Netflix has fought to keep for fans.

It's not hard to see what Shameless has continued to have pull with fans new and old. The cast has continued to star in new hit shows, like Jeremy Allen White's Emmy-winning turn in FX's The Bear and Emmy Rossum leading the Hulu crime thriller Furious. Seeing the cast in new roles makes fans want to relive their early days as the chaotic Gallagher family on Chicago's South Side.
