While it's always great news when Netflix acquires our favorite shows from past and present, there's inevitably the worst downside of the streaming era: the possibility of removal. No matter how popular the show might be on the streaming service or in pop culture in general, even the biggest shows can get plucked from Netflix. Just ask Gilmore Girls fans how that goes.

Back in October 2021, Seinfeld was the latest major acquisition to hit Netflix, a half-billion-dollar deal that spanned five years following the sitcom's time on Hulu ended. The iconic "show about nothing" has enjoyed the past half decade on the streaming service, but as the end of those five years neared this year, fans began to worry that the series would be removed in 2026.

Seinfeld won't be leaving Netflix after all

Thankfully, Seinfeld fans have nothing to worry about—at least for another five years. Netflix has officially renewed its licensing deal with Sony to stream the series for five more years, though this time around, the dollar amount the streamer put up to keep Seinfeld on its platform wasn't reported. Additionally, Paramount renewed its deal to air the series on Comedy Central, TV Land, and more.

From an outsider's perspective, you might be wondering if Seinfeld is even that lucrative of a series for Netflix to spend big money on to stick around. But to doubt the power of the Must-See TV darling is quite the fool's errand. Compared to the likes of Friends and The Office, it might not be as massively dominating in terms of its cultural cachet or streaming power, but it's still a major player.

As Deadline reports, Seinfeld made an appearance on Netflix's What We Watched report for the timeframe between January and June 2026. The sitcom, which contains nine total seasons, averaged around 3-3.5 million views around the world for each of its seasons. Considering that's sometimes the numbers Netflix's original comedies premiere with, that's huge for a nearly 40-year-old show.

Like its aforementioned contemporaries, the sitcom has never left the airwaves, remaining in syndication on cable and broadcast networks and having a permanent place in the streaming world (though that fluctuates, clearly). Other sitcoms might have fallen out of rotation, but Seinfeld will never lose its place in pop culture as an influential comedy touchstone.

No matter how you slice it, Netflix remaining the streaming home for Seinfeld is a major win for the streamer as it houses what's definitely one of the most successful sitcoms of all time. The series will be available to stream on Netflix for its 40th anniversary in 2029, which will be a major event that comes with a celebration from the cast, crew, industry, fans, and (obviously) Netflix.

Unlike legacy shows that hail from the other major studios—Warner Bros., Universal, Paramount, Disney—that have their own streaming services, Seinfeld will always be a show that the streamer's will have custody battles over. For now, Netflix has won the fight for a full decade, and fans can stream away without concern for five more years. Now that's serenity.
