The Lincoln Lawyer star makes Black Doves debut as Netflix gives season 2 first look

As we race toward the end of 2026 and inch closer to the start of 2027, there are seemingly countless Netflix shows that we're still looking forward to making their returns or premieres. Thankfully, one of those shows is Keira Knightley's spy drama Black Doves, which finally returns nearly two years after its premiere back in December 2024.

Late this summer, the Black Doves season 2 release date was quietly confirmed for fall, but Netflix finally made the formal announcement of the follow-up season's imminent arrival on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2026. Additionally, the streaming service also treated fans to the release of the trailer and first-look images, which gave us a glimpse of The Lincoln Lawyer star Neve Campbell.

While she's also expected to reprise her role as Maggie McPherson in the forthcoming fifth and final season of The Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix next year, the Scream icon also joins the cast of Black Doves as a new character named Cecile Mason in season 2. She joins the long list of fellow new and returning cast members, which are led by Knightley, Ben Whishaw, and Sarah Lancashire.

Campbell's character makes her introduction in the official Black Doves season 2 trailer, and another familiar face from a fan-favorite original series can also be seen. Yes, that's One Day star Ambika Mod also joining the spy thriller's cast in a key role as Leila. Clearly, there's a lot to be excited about when the show returns this fall. Black Doves season 2 picks back up with Knightley's leading character Helen Webb as she continues "betraying her nation's secrets" by serving the titular organization. Helen's circumstances have grown even more precarious following the events of the first season as Wallace (Andrew Buchan), her husband, rises to the role of Prime Minister. She's one wrong move from blowing everything up.

Netflix shared more details about the new episodes with the full season 2 synopsis:

"As Helen’s enigmatic handler, Mrs Reed (Sarah Lancashire) is ensnared in a ruthless plot to undermine her position in the Black Doves, Helen is reunited with her best friend, Sam (Ben Whishaw). The once high-end triggerman is now reduced to lonely drinks in Soho bars and low-rate hits. As they search for answers, loyalties are weaponized, trust is shattered, and the fight to protect the people they love could cost everything. With all the explosive wit of Series 1, Helen and Sam’s mission leads them back to old friends and enemies, through the dark decisions and painful sacrifices of their pasts, and right to the heart of the Black Doves."

It's been a long time coming for Black Doves season 2, but the show is back with another six-episode season. That's the downside here. We have been waiting two years to receive only six episodes, but that was to be expected since the first season also contained six episodes and, as a British series, a limited episode count isn't out of the ordinary.

As much as we'll want to binge-watch the complete second season in one sitting, we'll have to savor these six episodes in case there's another two-year wait for a potential third season. It's going to be difficult to pace ourselves, especially after seeing how thrilling and suspenseful season 2 will be in the trailer. On the bright side, Neve Campbell fans will see her back on Netflix in The Lincoln Lawyer.
