Sweet Magnolias star reacts to cancellation of Ransom Canyon as fans wait for season 6 update

There's some sad news coming out of Netflix this month as the streaming service finally decided the future of a fan-favorite original series. Unfortunately, Netflix opted to cancel Ransom Canyon after two seasons rather that renewing the Western romantic drama for a third season. The cancellation came almost two months after the second season dropped this summer.

Ransom Canyon was one of the many Netflix original series on the bubble and awaiting word on a renewal or cancellation, a list of shows that also includes Man on Fire, XO Kitty, The Hawk, and Sweet Magnolias. Like the just-canceled Western, the fellow romantic drama that's adored by fans is at risk of being axed, and one of its stars reacted has now to Ransom Canyon's cancellation.

JoAnna Garcia Swisher supports Minka Kelly after Ransom Canyon cancellation

After the cancellation news was announced, Ransom Canyon star Minka Kelly shared a post on Instagram saying farewell to the series with a montage video. "All good things must come to an end. And so it is. Thank you all for giving us two beautiful seasons! I love you forever my Ransom Canyon family," Kelly wrote in the caption. In the comments, JoAnna Garcia Swisher lended her support.

"Loved every minute, my friend," the Sweet Magnolias star commented along with a red heart emoji. Garcia Swisher's support for Kelly comes as she and the show's fans are awaiting word on whether we're returning to Serenity for season 6. It's been three months since Netflix released Sweet Magnolias season 5, and there's been little indication in which direction we're headed.

In Deadline's report about the Ransom Canyon cancellation, the outlet supposed that Netflix opted not to a order a third season due to a disappointing convergence of a significant viewership decline and a large price tag. Obviously, compared to a show like Stranger Things or The Witcher, the Western romantic drama doesn't cost as much to produce. But with lots of on-location shoots and top TV stars like Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly in the lead, the quickly budget adds up.

Sweet Magnolias suffered a similar viewership decline on Netflix with the release of its fifth season, but the series boasts the added bonus of having four extra seasons to pad its Nielsen ratings, narrowly missing a billion minutes viewed during season 5's June release week. While the show's fate might seem grim right now, there are still positives in its corner.

Even though Garcia Swisher reacted to the Ransom Canyon cancellation by sending a caring message to a friend, she and the cast have remained quiet on the fate of their own series. Sweet Magnolias fans were expecting to hear news about season 6 in August, but the month came and went without so much as a peep from Netflix about the series. Hopefully, news will arrive soon.

Unlike Ransom Canyon, which ended its second season by tying most of its storylines up in a bow, Sweet Magnolias season 5 left behind multiple unresolved story threads. Ransom Canyon left us wanting more even without a major cliffhanger, but Sweet Magnolias getting canceled without season 6 would leave fans with an even more bitter taste in our mouths.
