Ransom Canyon season 2 ends with twists that leave the door open for season 3

Ransom Canyon season 2 has landed on our Netflix watch lists at long last. The follow-up season quickly gets off to the races to answer the biggest questions the season 1 finale left behind, including where Staten and Quinn's relationship stands after she left for New York City.

Don't forget that Ransom Canyon teased two ongoing love triangles in its debut season, one between brother Lucas and Kit and Lucas' girlfriend Lauren, and the other between Yancy, Ellie, and Yancy's secret wife, who unexpectedly lands in town to stir the pot in a big way.

In the second season, the Netflix romantic drama series continues to deliver the romance viewers crave while also exploring some intense character dynamics. By the end of the season, some of the biggest questions are answered, while others are left as a cliffhanger. Let's unpack the ending!

Do Staten and Quinn end up together in season 2?

From the moment fans press play on Ransom Canyon season 2, the biggest question on anyone's mind is whether Staten and Quinn will finally make it work this season. If you haven't finished your binge-watch, then look away now. Here's your definitive answer: Yes, Staten and Quinn end up together by the end of the second season. But getting there isn't easy.

Quinn returns to Ransom Canyon from New York City with her new boyfriend Oliver quickly in tow. She doesn't get the chance to inform Staten about her new relationship before Oliver asks her to marry him in town square. Quinn doesn't ever answer his proposal, and the more time Oliver spends in Ransom, the more he becomes jealous and realizes Quinn will never be over Staten.

When Oliver breaks up with Quinn, she doesn't immediately run to Staten. She's not open to going down that path again and has resolved to keep their relationship platonic. However, revelations lead Quinn's mom of all people to convince Staten to fight for Quinn. They get together in episode 8 and vow to begin forever as a couple, with Staten giving her a key to Double K in the final scene.

The state of Staten and Quinn's romantic relationship is the biggest question answered in their respective storylines. We don't learn the outcome of the trustee vote, but it's all but confirmed that Sam stepped out of Staten's way. Quinn also goes into business with Mary Lou to buy the Lone Star theater as the new location for the No Place Like Home festival. There's lots to look forward to!

What happens between Lauren, Kit, and Lucas?

Another couple in Ransom Canyon that had a major conflict waiting for them in season 2 is Lauren and Lucas. Although they nearly called it quits in the first season, Lucas fought for her and they ended up together. In season 2, Lauren continues to navigate how she's feeling after a difficult year along with the feelings she still has for Lucas' older brother Kit.

Despite the showrunner stating after season 1 that a love triangle wouldn't happen in season 2, Kit became a wedge that pushed Lauren and Lucas further apart. Kit and Lauren tried to fight their feelings, but they wound up kissing each other in the middle of the season, which Lucas of course caught. As he unraveled, Lucas slept with Lauren's best friend Ashley.

Having betrayed each other, Lauren and Lucas obviously break up and are no longer together by the end of season 2. Kit decided, per Lauren's dad's insistence, to leave town for a ranch job in Wyoming. But Lucas tells Lauren where to find Kit, and she makes it to the bus station in time to kiss him to keep him in Ransom. If there's a season 3, the love triangle will continue to get trickier and trickier.

Why does Ellie break up with Yancy?

If you haven't finished the season, first of all, why have you gotten this far to the biggest spoiler? But it's understandable to want to emotionally prepare for the worst, which is what happens for Yancy and Ellie. Yes, they break up in the season 2 finale, but it's slow buildup that had been unfortunately running parallel to their storyline all season as they worked a con with Sidney.

And who is Sidney? That would be Yancy's wife, who returns to town to hide out from a con gone sideways, but she sticks around town for six months. Yancy keeps his relationship from Ellie private during that entire time, fearing that Sidney would use it against him in the divorce he's desperately trying to obtain. He also keeps the secret of Ellie's pregnancy from Sidney.

But Sidney finds out everything they were hiding, and as Yancy feared, tries to hold it over his head to steal Fuller Ranch. Yancy concocts a plan to con Sam Kirkland into thinking the land Cap bought before he died contains oil, which will send Sidney off with millions and end their marriage. Sadly, their plan goes sideways, and Sam ends up helping Yancy pull it off to get rid of Sidney.

When Sidney catches wind that they all out conned the con artist, she confronts Ellie at home, forcing her to fall from the porch to the ground. The trauma from the fall forces her into early labor, and the terror of Sidney being on the loose weighs on Ellie enough to break things off with Yancy. She worries that he's the person she and Isabella need to be protected from.

Going into a possible Ransom Canyon season 3, Yancy has the chance to team up with Freddie upon the discovery that his land really contains oil, but Sidney also continues to be an active threat. Ellie's split from Yancy positions the new mom to get closer to Kai, who has stepped in to protect her. Of all the couples, their uncertain future looks the messiest moving forward.
