It's been almost two years since we first met Noah Centineo's bumbling newbie CIA lawyer turned inadvertent field agent Owen Hendricks in The Recruit. The Netflix original spy comedy-drama became a quick hit and earned a season 2 renewal, though the dual Hollywood labor strikes delayed the fan-favorite from making its initially promised 2024 release date.

Earlier this year, Netflix announced that The Recruit season 2 would now be released in 2025 due to the effects of the strikes. While a production schedule was surely planned for soon after the January 2023 renewal for season 2, the strikes impacted Hollywood beginning in the summer then throughout the fall of 2023. Filming on season 2 didn't get underway until January 2024.

Fast forward to August 2024, and fans are still waiting for word on exactly when The Recruit season 2 will finally make its premiere on Netflix. Well, TV Live has supplied us with a much-needed update on the status of the forthcoming episodes, including how far long the post-production process is and what's currently keeping Netflix from announcing a release date.

The Recruit season 2 almost finished, 2025 release likely

According to TV Line, showrunner Alexi Hawley and his production crew are "finishing up" post-production on the last few episodes of The Recruit season 2. The episode count for the follow-up season hasn't been officially confirmed, though we can surmise that it will keep in line with season 1 and contain eight episodes. Still, that's great news!

The Recruit season 2 was filmed between January and late March 2024 in Canada and South Korea, which left the series to the post-production process for the rest of spring and summer. Because of the demanding action sequences and dubbing, post-production takes a bit more time than fans would probably prefer, which lends to Netflix pushing the show to 2025.

As TV Line mentions, Netflix remains in an awkward position of figuring out what to do with a striking number of series that were delayed by the strikes. The Recruit season 2 is just one of the Netflix shows pushed due to the strikes, as The Night Agent season 2, Sweet Magnolias season 4, Virgin River season 6, Wednesday season 2, Stranger Things season 5, and more are either awaiting release dates or still filming (and won't premiere until next year).

We have already seen the likes of The Lincoln Lawyer and The Diplomat scoring 2024 release dates for their upcoming seasons, which allows Netflix not to delay too many more of its hit shows. Virgin River, too, might actually premiere in 2024 after all along with Outer Banks season 4. Could The Recruit join them and make it out by the end of the year as well?

If we were to bet, it's our prediction that Netflix won't rush out another series and save The Recruit season 2 for a splashy debut sometime in early 2025. Of course, it's a bummer that we'll have to keep waiting for Owen's latest adventures, but on the bright side, we're about to have a stacked 2025 on Netflix with so many great shows returning with new seasons.
