Turns out Virgin River season 6 might be coming in 2024 after all

When Deadline announced that Virgin River season 6 wasn’t going to be arriving until 2025, fans were understandably shocked as it didn’t quite make sense to anyone to hold the next season until 2025 rather than releasing it in 2024. After all, we’ve been given a new season of Virgin River every year since the show’s debut in 2019. 

Interestingly, Netflix never directly commented on the reports that the show’s sixth season was delayed to 2025 and it seems initial reports might have been incorrect as Netflix’s head honcho Ted Sarandos has revealed a new season of Virgin River will be coming in 2024 after all it seems. 

During the Netflix Q2 2024 Earnings Interview, Sarandos discussed the upcoming slate of programming coming still in 2024 and the list included many previously announced titles such as Emily in Paris and Squid Game. It also happened to include Virgin River which seems to suggest season 6 will be dropping this year on Netflix after all! 

“Just before the end of this year we’ve got Squid Game’s return, Emily in Paris’s return, a new season of Selling Sunset, The Lincoln Lawyer, The Diplomat, Virgin River, Love is Blind, Ryan Murphy has an incredible new season of Monsters. That’s all just coming up before the end of the year,” Sarandos teased on the call.

So when could Virgin River season 6 be coming? 

Given that Ted Sarandos specifically mentioned that a new season of Virgin River is still to come this year during the Q2 earnings call for Netflix, it seems that we can expect the sixth season to drop sometime in the final months of 2024. 

August seems highly unlikely given the timing of things and the fact that Netflix tends to announce the release date for its bigger originals at least a few months in advance, which also seems to rule out a September release though one could still be possible. 

What seems most likely is that Virgin River season 6 could be coming in the final quarter of 2024 between October and December. Netflix has dropped seasons of the show in November and December in the past and we don’t yet have any big releases for either month so there seems like a good chance we could see season 6 arrive sometime around the holidays as one of Netflix’s big end-of-the-year releases. 

If I were a betting man, I’d predict that the sixth season will be coming sometime in November perhaps ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. That’s just speculation, of course, but it wouldn’t be the first time Netflix dropped a season of the show around Thanksgiving as season 2 arrived the day after Thanksgiving in 2020! 

All we know is that we’re more than a little excited to know that Virgin River season 6 will be coming in 2024 and that we don’t have to wait until next year to catch up with Mel, Jack, and all of our favorite characters in Virgin River!
