It's going to be another year without The Recruit season 2.

The Recruit premiered on Netflix on Dec. 16, 2022, and fans hoped to see the new season in 2023. Netflix quickly picked up the series for a second season, so it was just a matter of time before the new season dropped, right? Obviously, that didn't happen, so it seemed like 2024 would be the time to finally watch The Recruit season 2. Wrong, again!

On Feb. 1, 2024, Deadline confirmed The Recruit season 2 is coming to Netflix, not in 2024, but in 2025. Hopefully, we don't have to wait until December 2025 to watch the new season, but it's going to be two years minimum before the new season drops on Netflix.

Why doesn't The Recruit season 2 premiere until 2025?

Prior to Deadline's report, The Recruit was left off Netflix's list of new shows coming in 2024. That's not entirely surprising, and it's pretty simple.

Because of the writers' and actors' strikes, Netflix, which is part of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), basically created a production pipeline issue. So many of Netflix's returning shows were supposed to start filming in the second half of 2023, which would set them up nicely for 2024 premieres. Those shows couldn't film until the stikes ended, and now, everything is filming now or prepping to start production. All of those shows will wrap around the same time, and Netflix has to pick and choose what to schedule for 2024 and what to hold for 2025. That's basically the larger issue explained in as simply as I could put it.

For The Recruit season 2, production just started in January 2024. The new season will be filmed in Vancouver and Seoul, South Korea. So, with production just starting, it probably could be ready to go by the end of the year, but Netflix has a few similar action and espionage shows coming in 2024, including The Night Agent. It makes so much more sense to space out the bigger shows of the same genre than release them close together, especially when there's a lot of interest in those shows. We aren't going to see Stranger Things season 5 and Wednesday season 2 released in the same quarter. I guarantee that!

The Recruit season 2 is also going to be a lot bigger than the first season, which also might have contributed to the season coming in 2025 instead of 2024. Noah Centineo is back as Owen Hendricks, along with Aarti Mann, Colton Dunn, Fivel Stewart, Daniel Quincy Annoh, Kaylah Zander, Maddie Hasson, Jesse Collin, Angel Parker, Nathan Fillion, and Vondie Curtis-Hall. There are also a bunch of new cast members joining season 2, including James Purefoy, Teo Yoo, Young-Ah Kim, Felix Solis, Devika Bhise, Alana Hawley Purvis, Omar Maskati, Brooke Smith, Do Hyun Shin, and Sanghee Lee.

We'll share more news about The Recruit season 2 as it's announced! It's going to be a while, unfortunately.
