The Gentlemen season 2 renewed with Theo James and Kaya Scodelario returning
By Reed Gaudens
Netflix has officially ordered a second dose of one of the year's most popular series. Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen will be back for season 2, as Variety first reported the news that the streaming service renewed the British crime comedy-drama series for a second season.
It's been a long time coming for fans awaiting word on the show's fate after making its premiere back in March 2024. Along with the renewal, Variety reports that season 2 will contain another eight episodes and begin filming sometime in 2025. While more cast announcements are to come, Theo James and Kaya Scodelario are confirmed to reprise their starring roles and Daniel Ings will also be back as Freddy.
Back in April 2024, James opened about about the prospects of The Gentlemen returning for another round of episodes, stating that a second season of the series wasn't "genuinely discussed." He again spoke with Deadline about the potential for season 2 and the necessity to have a "strong story" as the driving force to come back and do it all again.
Obviously, ratings and viewership weren't even an issue with The Gentlemen. In its first four days of streaming on Netflix, the series racked up an impressive total of 1.21 billion streaming minutes. The series debuted with 12.2 million views in its opening frame and skyrocketed to 20.1 million views in its second week and remained the No. 1 title on Netflix for its third week.
James stars in the series as Eddie Horniman, who inherits both the title of Duke of Halstead and his father's sweeping country estate, but his role isn't as luxurious as it might sound on the surface. As he learns more information about his family's business, he teams up with Susie Glass (Scodelario), the heir of a drug empire, and leans into the world of criminal dealings with his new parter in literal crime.
The first season was well-received by critics and viewers alike, holding a 74% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes as well as an 87% audience score. Considering the show's excellent viewership figures in combination with the adoration from fans, season 2 was only a matter of when rather than if. While season 1 earned an Emmy nomination for stunt coordination, James was unfortunately snubbed for his performance, but now we have season 2 to rectify that mistake.
The Gentlemen is one of many recently renewed Netflix shows, as the streaming also picked up hit British drama series Supacell for season 2 and Korean drama phenomenon Squid Game for a third and final season ahead of season 2's premiere in December. A number of fan-favorite Netflix original series are still awaiting renewal or cancellation, but fans no longer have to worry about this one.
