Everything we know so far about Supacell season 2
By Bryce Olin
Supacell, created by Rapman, premiered on Netflix at the end of June, and there's no doubt this has been one of the biggest shows of the summer for the streamer.
Supacell tells the story of five South Londoners who learn they have superpowers. Together, they join forces to stop a mysterious organization that wishes them harm. The series stars Tosin Cole, Nadine Mills, Josh Tedeku, Calvin Demba, Adelayo Adedayo, Eric Kofi-Abrefa, Ghetts, Eddie Marsan, Sian Brooke, and more.
We have some excellent news about Supacell season 2 to share with fans of the Netflix original series!
Supacell season 2 is happening
On Tuesday, Aug. 13, Netflix announced Supacell season 2 is officially in the works. The streamer shared the news on social media with video messages from Rapman and the cast.
Obviously, it was a long wait to find out if Supacell was renewed or not, but now, the cast and creative team can get back to work on the new season.
Overall, Supacell seemed like it had a decent chance at renewal on Netflix. There was clearly more to the story. The reception was great! Netflix reported Supacell spent its first six weeks in the Global TV Netflix Top 10. It was just bounced from the Netflix Top 10 the week before it was renewed.
Supacell isn't going to be as popular as Bridgerton, Stranger Things, Wednesday, or the most popular English language Netflix originals that make up most of the spots on the all-time Netflix Top 10, but it's so awesome to see this show doing so well! and resonating with viewers! I think that speaks to how good the show is and also how passionate fans are about the show. With limited marketing and promotion, this show has been a hit on Netflix all summer long thanks to the fans.
Has Netflix announced the Supacell season 2 release date?
Unfortunately, Netflix hasn't announced the Supacell season 2 release date yet. I mean, we just learned the show is coming back for season 2, so that's not a big deal at this point. There is so much work to be done -- writing, filming, editing, etc. -- before Netflix announced the official release date, but things are looking good so far!
It will be really interesting to see what happens with Supacell season 2! According to Netflix, Rapman mentioned getting back in the writers' room when discussing the second season, so we have to assume that they still need to finish writing the second season before the show moves into production.
Unless they are planning to film later this year, which is possible, things are probably shaping up for production to begin in early 2025. If that happens, and the show consists of six episodes again like season 1, we should see Supacell season 2 sometime on Netflix in late 2025.
Release Prediction: Fall or Winter 2025
Supacell season 2 cast
Netflix hasn't confirmed the full cast of Supacell season 2, but we know that many of the season 1 cast members will return in some capacity in season 2.
- Tosin Cole as Michael
- Calvin Demba as Rodney
- Josh Tedeku as Tazer
- Nadine Mills as Sabrina
- Eric Kofi-Abrefa as Andre
- Rayxia Ojo as Sharleen
- Eddie Marsan as Ray
- Sian Brooke as Victoria
- Giacomo Mancini as Spud
- Andy Thompson as Twosie
- Mickira Oji as Skreamer
- Travis Jay as John
- Akai Coleman as Tiny
It will be really interesting to see if we see Ghetts return as Krazy or Adelayo Adebayo as Dionne in season 2. There is a time travel element to the series, so it's definitely possible to see those cast members and characters return in some capacity.
We're also expecting we'll see at least a few new cast members in Supacell season 2!
What's next in Supacell season 2?
At the end of Supacell season 1, there are several major revelations that set up season 2.
Krazy had been working with the organization the whole time, and he also had superpowers. Michael, Andre, Tazer, Rodney, and Sabrina work together for the first time in the season to stop Krazy and his minions, but Dionne is killed in the process.
Later, we see Michael go to the future to try to find out as much as he can about the organization so that he can come back and stop them.
Then, at the very end of the season, we see Ray talking with Krazy, who is somehow still alive, though not for long. Victoria, the real boss of the operation, enters the room and has Krazy killed for not handling the situation. She also expresses her frustration with Ray. Remember, Victoria is the woman who we saw speaking with Michael's mom early in the season, encouraging her to come to their facility. She's not nice, that's for sure!
While Michael, Andre, Rodney, Tazer, and Sabrina were not able to change the outcome of Dionne's death, they were able to change the future, according to Rapman.
Here's what he told Netflix:
"Supacell Season 1 is my Batman Begins. It’s a prequel of what they’ll be like. Season 2 is when you really see what they become. That future you saw at the end of the pilot in London, that exact future doesn’t exist anymore. They’ve changed everything. It’s going to be interesting when we get into the writers’ room."
Rapman has at least three seasons planned for Supacell
Hopefully, Rapman and the creative team behind Supacell get a chance to see their vision through to the end, which could be season 3. We've heard this a few times now, but Rapman told Netflix he has planned three seasons for Supacell.
"I’ve always had it mapped out to season 3. I know how Season 2 ends. I’ve got stuff planned for this story. I’ve had this in my head for years, so I’m ready to go."
He also mentioned the series possibly going longer than three seasons to Deadline, but we'll have to see how it all plays out.
Now, fans have to make sure they watch season 2 when it comes out and spread the word about this great series. That's how we make sure Supacell season 3 happens at Netflix!
