While some Netflix fans might not be fully aware of it yet, one of the most highly anticipated new shows coming to the streamer next year is Ransom Canyon. Most of us are looking forward to the latest seasons of Stranger Things, Wednesday, and more Netflix originals that are coming in 2025, but it's time to put the modern Western romance on your radar.

A little bit Virgin River and a little bit Yellowstone, the upcoming Netflix drama series is based on the book of the same name by Jodi Thomas. There are multiple books in the Ransom Canyon series, but the first one will be reissued on March 4, 2025. This edition of Thomas' book will likely be the media tie-in featuring the Netflix show's poster on the cover, just like the Bridgerton book reissues.

Typically, a show or movie that's based on a book will have the new edition of its source material released about a month or two in advance of the adaptation's release date. For instance, the Netflix limited series The Perfect Couple drops on Sept. 5, and the updated edition of Elin Hilderbrand's book of the same name will hit shelves on Aug. 6, one month ahead of the series. Likewise, Colleen Hoover's bestselling novel It Ends with Us was republished on July 23 with a cover featuring Blake Lively before the Aug. 9 theatrical release of the movie adaptation.

Ransom Canyon could hit Netflix in spring 2025

Based on this information and the currently pre-order for the new Ransom Canyon republishing, we can surmise that the show could drop on Netflix by April 2025. Obviously, Netflix has not announced or even teased a release window for the forthcoming new series, but series star Minka Kelly confirmed in an Instagram post that the series will make its debut in 2025.

Filming wrapped on the series in June 2024 after cameras began rolling at the beginning of the year in January. Because of the usual time Netflix series take in post-production, the chances of Ransom Canyon making a 2024 release were already slim to none. Kelly solidified what we knew would be a 2025 release, and the book re-issue's pre-order date gives us a better idea of when in 2025 to expect the series to premiere.

If not sometime in April, the show could release in late March at the very earliest or even sometime in May depending on the promotional buildup the streamer has planned. Kelly's just one of the major stars in the series. Josh Duhamel and James Brolin are among the biggest names in the show's ensemble cast. Netflix will definitely want to promote the surefire hit series, and we're definitely going to see many of their faces on the cover of the book that's releasing on March 4.

According to BookNet Canada, media tie-in books can be published up to three weeks ahead of its film or television adaptation as a promotional tool. Both the book and the adaptation receive a lift from the tie-in edition. It's no secret that some readers don't appreciate having the movie or show's key art on the book since it can take away from the source material, but there are even more readers who prefer to have the adaptation's poster on the book cover.

If you bought the re-released Virgin River and Sweet Magnolias books with the show's characters on the cover, you will probably want to add Ransom Canyon to your collection next year. We can't wait to find out more about the upcoming series, including its release date and what this fortune telling book cover will look like.
