After the massive success of the thriller series Fool Me Once, all eyes are on Harlan Coben's next television adaptation for Netflix. The streaming giant is currently in the process of adapting Coben's 2014 thriller novel Missing You into a limited series and we've got all the juicy deets about the upcoming show below.
Harlan Coben has an ongoing creative partnership with Netflix, and it's through this deal that Missing You is being made into a series. We first learned of this television adaptation back in January 2024 when Netflix announced that two more of Coben's books had been greenlit to be turned into Netflix originals. The two books were Missing You and Run Away.
At the time, Quay Street Productions was revealed to be the production company behind Missing You. In addition, it was revealed that Coben would be serving as executive producer through his Final Twist Productions company. Nicola Shindler, Richard Fee, Victoria Asare-Archer, and Danny Brocklehurst would also be executive producers. Filmmaker Sean Spencer had signed on to direct as well as Isher Sahota as second director. Additionally, Asare-Archer wrote the scripts.
What is Missing You on Netflix about?
Many years ago, Detective Kat Donovan lost the love of her life when her fiancé Josh disappeared without a trace. Fast forward eleven years later, Kat is surfing through an online dating site and suddenly sees a familiar face. It's the face of her missing fiancé! This leads her on a mission to figure out what exactly happened to Josh. But while investigating, she soon finds herself forced to delve back into the mystery surrounding her father’s murder as well as "uncover long-buried secrets from her past."
Here's the book's synopsis via Amazon:
"Surfing an online dating site, NYPD detective Kat Donovan feels her whole world explode. Staring back at her is her ex-fiancé, the man who shattered her heart—and whom she hasn’t seen in eighteen years.
But when Kat reaches out to the man in the profile, an unspeakable conspiracy comes to light. As Kat begins to investigate, her feelings are challenged about everyone she’s ever loved—even her father, whose cruel murder so long ago has never been fully explained.
With lives on the line, including her own, Kat must venture deeper into the darkness than she ever has before and discover if she has the strength to survive what she finds there."
You can purchase the book through Amazon as a paperback ($8.36 before taxes), hardcover ($17.63 before taxes), or eBook ($9.99 before taxes) at various prices.
Cast
We officially have our Kat Donovan! Initially, we reported that English actress Rosalind Eleazar had been rumored to be cast in the role. Now, we have confirmation. Eleazar is set to portray Detective Kat Donovan in Missing You on Netflix! Production started on the thriller series in the United Kingdom in early March 2024. Filming is reportedly taking place in and around Manchester. We don't have a wrap date just yet.
Besides Eleazar's confirmed casting, Netflix also recently announced new cast additions to the series. We had hoped that English actor Richard Armitage would be cast and it looks like our wishes came true. Armitage, who has already been in three Harlan Coben Netflix shows, has joined the Missing You cast. Other new cast additions include actors Jessica Plummer, Lenny Henry, Steve Pemberton, Paul Kaye, Samantha Spiro, Lisa Faulkner, Mary Malone, Charlie Hamblett, Oscar Kennedy, Brigid Zengeni, Catherine Ayers, Felix Garcia Guyer and Jo Martin.
Unfortunately, character names are undisclosed at the moment. However, we could see Armitage playing Kat's missing ex-fiancé, Josh. We'll get back to you with a cast guide to who's playing who once this information is known.
There will be five episodes in total with each being about an hour long. This episode count isn't surprising since another one of Coben's shows (Gone for Good) had the same amount of episodes. We would've liked eight episodes, though.
That's all we know about Missing You for now. As we learn more about the upcoming thriller series, we'll return to this space to share new information.
While waiting for more updates, we recommend checking out the other Harlan Coben shows on Netflix like The Woods, Gone for Good, The Innocent, The Stranger, Safe, Hold Tight and Stay Close.
