Ginny & Georgia and XO, Kitty won't be returning in 2024 (what a drag)

Just when I thought it was going to be a great day, I find out that some of my favorite shows won't be returning this year. I'm seriously trying to keep it together, but I'm truly lost for words. What shows am I talking about, you ask? Well, it's none other than two of the best teen shows on Netflix, Ginny & Georgia and XO, Kitty. This just isn't right, and now I barely have any shows to look forward to in 2024.

The day started off on a good note, with Netflix revealing its 2024 series and movie slate. There were many popular shows on the list that were confirmed to be coming back with new seasons this year, such as Emily in Paris, Squid Game, Cobra Kai, Outer Banks and several others. Of course, I searched all over the list for Ginny & Georgia and XO, Kitty, but neither could be found. And now I know why...

According to a new report from Deadline, these two hit teen shows won't be returning with new seasons in 2024 because of delays due to the writers and actors strikes. Instead, they are both set for a 2025 release. While this makes sense, I still hoped that Ginny & Georgia and XO, Kitty could get things up and running quickly after the strikes ended so that they could make a 2024 release. But I guess that was just wishful thinking on my end.

If I'm being honest, I had an inkling that these shows wouldn't be coming back this year. The creative teams on both shows and Netflix hadn't said a word about the upcoming seasons since their renewals were announced. While we did hear about a recent rumor of filming prep starting on Ginny & Georgia season 3 in February 2024, it's been complete radio silence on the XO, Kitty front. That wasn't a good sign. Now I know the truth, and the truth hurts.

After looking over Netflix's 2024 shows and movies slate again, I noticed that there are barely any good teen shows listed in the lineup besides Heartstopper season 3, Young Royals season 3 and Outer Banks season 4. While I'm excited to watch all these shows, it's still not enough. Both Ginny & Georgia and XO, Kitty ended their last seasons on shocking cliffhangers, and I was more than ready to dive back into these fictional worlds to see how everything plays out. But I guess I have to get over it because there's nothing I can do besides play the waiting game now.
