In Emily in Paris season 4 part 1, Alfie kind of got the short end of the stick. Even though he was angry and hurt after what went down at Gabriel and Camille's almost-wedding, he still loved Emily and wanted to repair their relationship. Unfortunately, his attempts to rekindle their relationship were no match for Emily's feelings for Gabriel. Let's just say Alfie will never forget that masquerade party.

Going into season 4 part 2, questions about how Alfie would factor into the story moving forward loomed large, mostly because Emily had chosen Gabriel. Without informing Alfie of her decision, Emily officially decided to go all-in on a relationship with Gabriel. But where would that leave Alfie in Emily in Paris season 4 part 2, especially with Marcello now in the picture, too? Would he still be hung up on Emily or would he move on?

Well, when Emily in Paris season 4 part 2 premiered on Netflix on Sept. 12, those are some of the first questions answered in the Christmas-themed opening episode. While it might not have been what you expected or even wanted, here's what happens with Alfie in the rest of season 4.

Warning: Spoilers ahead from Emily in Paris season 4 part 2!

Alfie has a new girlfriend in Emily in Paris season 4 part 2

After leaving Megève and returning to Paris thanks to an ill-fated Christmas skip trip spent with Gabriel, Camille, and her family, Emily runs into Alfie by chance. He's the first person she sees when she's back home in the city, and you can tell she at first thinks it's some sort of cosmic, romantic stroke of fate.

However, her unspoken hopes of whatever this run-in could mean are dashed when Alfie informs her that he's going to Christmas mass with his girlfriend and her family.

Before he shares that revelation that hits her like a ton of bricks, she tells him that she and Gabriel broke up. He extends his support and reveals that he's finally falling in love with Paris. "It just fits," as he says. Emily invites him to Mindy's Christmas party, but that's when the news drops and he puts up the boundary. He's moved on with someone new. You can see that Emily's realization that the other man she loved moving on isn't an easy pill to swallow.

Don't get too excited about Alfie's girlfriend, though. We never have the opportunity to meet the mystery woman in Emily in Paris season 4 part 2. The only other appearance Alfie makes that has an impact in the story comes in the season 4 finale when he, Gabriel, and Antoine celebrate Gabriel landing his Michelin star. Believe it or not, Alfie's the one who pushes Gabriel to chase after Emily in Rome, since she's now moving there and in a relationship with Marcello, and win her back.

Beyond Alfie's limited appearances in season 4, it's unclear what role the character could play if Netflix renews the series for season 5 (and they should). Lucien Laviscount wasn't a series regular in season 4, and it's likely that he wouldn't be in a potential fifth season either. But fans love him, and we would need to catch up with him again. Maybe in season 5, he and his girlfriend will be getting married and attending the wedding will make Emily spiral. Wouldn't that be a funny storyline?

No matter what, cheers to Alfie for finding a relationship that's seemingly less complicated than his love triangle with Emily. It's great to see a fan-favorite character happy and thriving!
