Emily in Paris season 4 part 2 might have just thrown our girl some of the biggest changes yet after a whirlwind trip to Rome.
When we last left Emily in Emily in Paris season 4 part 1, she seemed to finally be getting everything in order as she always wanted to. She was happily (well, mostly) in a relationship with Gabriel, the man of her dreams, and her career was thriving. But sometimes you wake up from that dream while on a holiday ski trip with your boyfriend, his ex-fiancé, and her family...
Emily started season 4 in one place and ended season 4 in a completely different place — both figuratively and literally. What happens between Emily and Gabriel in part 2? What about with Marcello? And what's next for Emily in a potential season 5? Will she be saying goodbye to Paris for now or for good? Let's dive into the shocking season 4 finale twists!
Here's your last warning before the spoilers begin...
Emily is moving to Rome!
Even though she went to Rome for pleasure not business, Sylvie sees an opportunity for Emily to mix those two with Marcello and shows up in Italy with the Agence Grateau team. His family's business, Umberto Muratori, at first feels hesitant to market the company, much less hire a French firm to do so. However, Emily's ideas spark something in Marcello's mother Antonia, who later agrees to work with Agence Grateau in spite of the team's attempts to lie about having an office in Rome.
Well, now Agence Grateau will have to open an office in Rome per Antonia's agreement to give the firm six months to pull it together, effectively ending the Muratoris' deal with JVMA. Emily's proximity to the Muratori account and him personally makes Marcello question her intentions with him, but she initially requests to have nothing to do with the account moving forward. But... Sylvie isn't looking to either Julien or Luc to run the Rome office. She offers the job to Emily.
There's no time for Emily to say yes or no or think much about her impending move. Sylvie has already lined up a temporary apartment for Emily in Rome while she leads the Muratori account. When she visits her apartment for the first time, she opens the window to check out the view, just as she did in season 1 when she moved to Paris. Before changing her Instagram handle, Emily's interrupted by a knock at the door. Marcello's arrived to take her one a scooter ride.
Gabriel wants Emily back
By the end of season 4 part 1, Gabriel learned that he was jumping through hoops trying to impress someone who couldn't award him a Michelin star. Well, as it turns out, he ended up earning one on his own merit in season 4 part 2. He calls Emily while she's in Rome to share the exciting news, and she calls him right back to leave a voicemail completely in French to congratulate him and express who proud she is of his achievement. It all adds up to realizing he made a mistake letting her go.
When Mindy runs into Gabriel celebrating with Alfie and Antoine outside the restaurant, she casually shares the news that Emily's moving to Rome. He's clearly rattled by the revelation that Emily will no longer be in Paris. Oddly enough, it's Alfie who inspires him not to mope and to do something to get her back. (Alfie's in a new relationship, by the way!) While the finale tries to imply Gabriel made it all the way to Emily's doorstep in Rome, he's at her apartment in Paris asking Mindy where to find her. Go get her!
Mindy lands a new job in China
Because of his selfish and jealous ways rearing their ugly head, Mindy and Nicolas break up. Unfortunately, the split has its ramifications for Mindy, one being disqualified for Eurovision thanks to Nicolas using her song "Mon Soleil" in a sunscreen commercial, which is prohibited by Eurovision rules. Down on her luck and in need of a change of scenery, Mindy hops the next flight to Rome to get out of Paris and spend some time with her best friend.
While walking around the city with Emily, Mindy jumps on a public piano to play a new original song she wrote called "Beautiful Ruins." Emily records the song, but a tourist later posts a recoding on TikTok. Mindy's song goes viral and Chinese Popstar, the series Mindy choked on years ago, DM'd Mindy an offer to join the series as a judge and to perform "Beautiful Ruins." She's finally earned her redemption and is off to China, but promises to rejoin Emily in Rome. Go thrive, Mindy!
