Emily ends up with Marcello in Emily in Paris season 4 part 2

After their argument during their skiing Christmas holiday, Emily and Gabriel break up. It's a tough blow to those of us who had been waiting and championing and seeing the show's endgame through. A lot of people prefer Emily with Alfie, but a lot of people (this writer included) preferred Emily with Gabriel. It's hard to watch their brief romantic relationship crumble so quickly.

Emily begins dating Marcello and that's who she ends up with by the season 4 ending. She first meets him in season 4 episode 6, when he rescues her after she falls while skiing. A few episodes later, she runs into him again at a polo match and learns that they could have potential business ties. However, she's more interested in Marcello personally than professionally.

Even though Sylvie wants Emily to travel to Rome to score Marcello's family's company as a client, she takes a personal trip to spend time getting to know Marcello in Rome. She lives her Lizzie McGuire fantasy on the back of his scooter riding around the city. It's the picture perfect date to go along with their fantastically romantic meet-cute. (Seriously, Emily is God's favorite.)

Sylvie makes Emily's vacation a business trip against her will, showing up in Rome to land the Muratori account in person. Marcello questions Emily's intentions for coming to Rome and the situation tests his trust. Was she only charming him to get his business? No! As an Emily warrior, it's kind of annoying that these men are constantly questioning Emily's character. She's a well-intentioned, kind person!

Marcello might be Emily's Mr. Right

Thankfully, Marcello sees the error of his ways and understands Emily isn't the type of person who would use him. Her feelings are genuine. It's what makes it all the more exciting when he shows up at her door after moving to Rome for work to again take her around the city. Watching her feel at peace with where she has ended up and who she's ended up with is what she deserves.

For the first time, she's in a relationship that's easy. Sure, Emily and Marcello had a bit of a dust-up over work, but they managed to maturely sort that out without making it a prolonged "thing." Marcello doesn't come with excess baggage and he's open with her. He communicates. That's what she felt she was missing with Gabriel. Oh, and Marcello doesn't hold her language limitations against her.

Look, I'm on record as saying that I want Emily and Gabriel to end up together. Somewhere in an article written for part 1, I mentioned my hope that Gabriel would propose in part 2. (Oh, how naive I was just a short month ago!) But I could have never dreamed that the Emily in Paris writers would have someone as charming, handsome, and perfect as Marcello up their sleeves. Well played!

Marcello might have been meant as another roadblock for Emily and Gabriel, but he's honestly the best boyfriend she has had in the series. I didn't see this coming. I was planning to defend Gabriel to the bitter end. But Marcello has charmed me. When it comes down to it, I watch Emily in Paris for Emily and as a viewer, I want her to be happy. She doesn't have to make sacrifices to be happy with Marcello. There's always conflict to come in a potential season 5, but not right now.

Personally, the only way Gabriel could make a comeback when he inevitably storms Rome to make a plea with Emily to take him back is to listen when she tells him he hurt her. He wasn't as good of a partner to her as he could have been, as impossible of a situation as he was in with Camille. And he needs to listen to Emily and work for it. Until then, Emily's endgame is Marcello's for the taking.
