Atlas and 3 new action movies to watch on Netflix in spring 2024
By Bryce Olin
It's been a good spring for action movies on Netflix! There have been two major action movie releases within the last two months, and Netflix's final original action movie of the spring arrives soon. As the streamer licenses more movies, there have been some killer additions, as well.
If you're looking for some new action movies to watch on Netflix, we have the perfect list for you.
Let's get the list started with J. Lo's new action movie, Atlas.
Atlas
- Premiere date: May 24
- Director: Brad Peyton
- Cast: Jennifer Lopez, Sterling K. Brown, Simu Liu, Mark Strong, Gregory James Cohan, Lana Parrilla, Abraham Popoola, and more
One year after The Mother shot to the No. 7 spot on the all-time Netflix Top 10 movie list, Jennifer Lopez is back with a new action movie on Netflix. Atlas premiered on Netflix on Memorial Day weekend 2024. It's already the most popular movie on Netflix (and probably the world right now), and it's only getting more popular.
The film tells the story of Atlas, played by J. Lo, who is forced to team up with an AI robot to try to save humanity.
Overall, Atlas isn't great reviews, but if you're a fan of sci-fi movies like this, you can't go wrong! Check out Atlas this spring on Netflix.
Madame Web
- Premiere date: Feb. 14 (New on Netflix on May 14)
- Director: S.J. Clarkson
- Cast: Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Adam Scott, Emma Roberts, Isabela Merced, Celeste O'Connor, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, and more
No, Madame Web isn't a Netflix original, and it's not technically new. But, it's new on Netflix! And, it's still a good action flick to watch on the streaming service this spring. The film premiered in theaters on Valentine's Day 2024, and let's just say that the movie wasn't a big hit at the box office.
Madame Web stars Dakota Johnson as Cassie Webb, who tries to protect a group of young Spider-Women from an assassin. All you need to know is: her web connects them all. Let's go!
While the film does have some flaws and doesn't hit all the right notes, it's one of the most enjoyable cinematic experiences on Netflix right now. To me, Madame Web isn’t bad; it’s just misunderstood. This movie is a throwback to the days of superhero movies before Avengers: Endgame in a lot of ways. The stakes are just different, but there’s still a lot to like. The cast did a good job with what they were given.
Trust me, and just watch Madame Web when you can.
Rebel Moon
- Premiere date: Dec. 15, 2023/April 19, 2024
- Director: Zack Snyder
- Cast: Sofia Boutella, Michiel Huisman, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Charlie Hunnam, Anthony Hopkins, and more
Rebel Moon - Part Two: Scargiver premiered on Netflix on April 19, 2024. The first part of the film series, Rebel Moon - Part One: Child of Fire, was released on Netflix just before Christmas 2023. Although the film series hasn't been appreciated critically, it's definitely worth a watch for action film fans.
In the series, Kora, played by Sofia Boutella, leads a ragtag group of rebels against Motherworld, the empire and its massive army. Kora's past comes full circle.
Rebel Moon is another popular Netflix movie that didn’t get great reviews. It’s hard to understand what exactly the goal was for Netflix. They made an R-rated movie PG-13 with the hope of bringing in more of the masses, and it worked. The product suffered, though. Netflix has a R-rated version of Rebel Moon coming soon. I can’t imagine it won’t improve the story and entertainment value.
Hit Man
- Premiere date: June 7
- Director: Richard Linklater
- Cast: Glen Powell, Retta, Adria Arjona, Austin Amelio, Sanjay Rao, Evan Holtzman, Molly Bernard, and more
Hit Man is the only movie on that list that's not available to stream right now, but we know you will be tuning in when it's released on Netflix on June 7, 2024! This is one of the most highly anticipated Netflix movies of the year, so we will be seated.
Directed by the great Richard Linklater, Hit Man stars Glen Powell as Gary Johnson, a seemingly unsuspecting professor who poses as a hit man for hire to help police. Unfortunately, Gary gets in deep. Watch the trailer for Hit Man:
That's the list of the best action movies on Netflix this spring. We highly recommend tuning in for Hit Man on June 7. If you need a little Glen Powell in your life before then, I highly recommend Anyone But You and Set It Up. They're both rom-coms, but they're well worth a watch.
