Glen Powell saved the rom-com genre at the box office in 2023 with his turn in Anyone But You alongside Sydney Sweeney. His next project, Hit Man, debuted to rave reviews at the 80th Venice International Film Festival and will be released on Netflix this summer. Now that the trailer is out, both fans of the actor and fans of the action genre are buzzing with anticipation. Let's get into everything we know about the movie to prepare you for its release in June!
Hit Man follows the true story of Gary Johnson, a professor who discovers his hidden talent as a fake hit man. Johnson meets a new client who is desperate to flee an abusive relationship, but as he attempts to help her, he begins to fall in love. On top of starring in the film, Powell co-wrote it with Richard Linklater, who also directed it. See the trailer here:
Hit Man cast
Besides Glen Powell, Hit Man stars Morbius's Adria Arjona, along with Austin Amelio, Retta, and Sanjay Rao. Powell is set to star in the upcoming Twister standalone sequel, titled Twisters, which is set to come out on July 19. Arjona is starring in Zoe Kravitz's directorial debut Blink Twice alongside Channing Tatum, which will be released on Aug. 23. Full cast below:

Arjona will play Maddy Masters, who is Gary's love interest. Upon meeting his latest client, her story captivates Gary and leads him to fall in love. This leads to a wild turn of deception and mixed identities. Retta and Sanjay Rao are police officers who Gary works for. Holtzman plays Ray Masters who is Arjona's husband, who she is attempting to get away from.

Hit Man is based on a Texas Monthly magazine article of the same name from 2001 written by Skip Hollandsworth. Co-writer and director Richard Linklater directed a movie called Bernie prior to this, which was also based on one of Hollandsworth's stories. The character Gary Johnson was actually a real person who worked as a fake contractor for the police, but Linklater has mentioned that some of the bigger moments of the movie are fictional.
Hit Man will be released on Netflix on June 7, 2024.
