After a great year of Netflix new releases that gave us dozens of hit shows, plenty of renewals, and more favorites than we can count, it's no secret that we're going into the new year hoping for all of the Netflix shows we love to be back with new seasons. While that's true for countless shows that have already been confirmed for release in 2026, there's some we'll be waiting a bit longer for.
We came into the new year knowing for sure that a select few Netflix shows definitely wouldn't be back with new seasons in 2026, but now that Netflix has shared a closer look at its programming slate for the coming year, there were a striking number of omissions from the list. The streamer could still announce more shows coming in 2026, but those left out might not be back until 2027.
Among those officially confirmed to be heading for our watch lists throughout this year include Virgin River season 7 and Sweet Magnolias season 5, both of which receiving release dates for March and June respectively. Netflix also revealed 3 Body Problem, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Black Doves, The Four Seasons, Emily in Paris, Nobody Wants This, and Outer Banks will be returning this year.
Many more new and returning Netflix originals will arrive in 2026 (check out the full list here), but a double handful of fan-favorite scripted series were not featured in Netflix's initial look ahead at what's next. These are the 10 shows that could now be delayed until 2027:
- Bet season 2
- Dept. Q season 2
- Forever season 2
- Geek Girl season 2
- Ginny & Georgia season 4
- Heartbreak High season 3
- Ransom Canyon season 2
- Supacell season 2
- Untamed season 2
- Wednesday season 3
The fact that Wednesday season 3 isn't coming in 2026 should come as a surprise to anyone, considering the scope and scale of the production. Jenna Ortega's busy schedule also plays a role in the show's production time, but overall, the supernatural drama takes up to a year to film and contains special effects that extends the post-production period. We knew a 2027 release was a given.
However, some of the other shows that weren't included in Netflix's 2026 lineup right away might be surprising. Ransom Canyon season 2 began production in late 2025 and will wrap in early 2026, which should allow for the breakout romantic drama to return before the end of the year. That's still possible, but we should also prepare for the possibility that season 2 might not arrive until early 2027.
Ginny & Georgia fans won't appreciate the fact that season 4 hasn't been confirmed to premiere in 2026. Like Ransom Canyon, filming began in later 2025 and will wrap in early 2026. This could have been the first time we would receive two seasons of the series in consecutive years, but Netflix might be sticking to the two-year wait once again. Let's keep our fingers crossed for a 2026 release.
The other Netflix shows that could be held for 2027 include the second seasons of breakout hits Bet, Dept. Q, Forever, Geek Girl, Supacell, and Untamed. Additionally, the final season of Australian teen drama Heartbreak High could also be keeping fans waiting for upwards of three years since season 2 dropped in 2024. Clearly, patience will be the name of the game in 2026.
Stay tuned for more Netflix news and updates. We'll be sure to share whether these shows will in fact drop in 2027 or if they manage to make it onto the 2026 release calendar!
