4 best Netflix shows to watch (and 2 to skip) in December 2024
By Reed Gaudens
The last month of 2024 has arrived, but that doesn't mean there aren't any good new Netflix shows to watch. For the last 31 days of the year, Netflix will be pulling out all the stops with brand-new movies, shows, documentaries, and more excellent new releases in December.
While you're watching your favorite Christmas movies, maybe even some on Netflix, you can also check the month's best binge-worthy offerings featuring some of the biggest stars. Keira Knightley headlines the spy drama Black Doves, while Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano lead the star-studded cast of dark comedy series No Good Deed.
December also brings the highly anticipated latest seasons of some of Netflix's most popular original series, including Virgin River, Queer Eye, and just a little show you've probably heard of called Squid Game. It's a jam-packed month to see out 2024, but what's worth watching and what should you skip?
Black Doves
Watch! Keira Knightley stars in Black Doves, which takes place in London during Christmas, but when it premieres on Dec. 5, you'll learn that it's not a heartwarming holiday story. Filled with action and intrigue, the series follows a woman tracking down who killed her secret lover, which leads to a vast conspiracy with geopolitical ramifications. The Diplomat and The Night Agent fans will love this show. The best part about Black Doves is it's already been renewed for a second season!
No Good Deed
Watch! If you have been missing Dead to Me since the series ended after three seasons in 2022, Liz Feldman has cooked up your next dark comedy obsession. No Good Deed stars sitcom veterans Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano as homeowners selling their house that holds some dark secrets. As prospective buyers bite, so do the realities of the past. Doesn't that sound like a great binge-watch? Don't miss a single episode when the series makes its debut on Dec. 12.
Queer Eye season 9
Skip! Obviously, the Emmy Award-winning, fan-favorite Netflix original reality series Queer Eye is beloved by many, so don't take the "skip" recommendation to heart. It's merely for those who aren't already fans of the show who likely won't be rushing to watch the ninth season when it drops on Dec. 11. Queer Eye season 9, which takes place in Las Vegas, welcomes Jeremiah Brent to the cast following the departure of Bobby Berk amid a bit of behind-the-scenes drama.
Virgin River season 6
Watch! It's time to go back to Virgin River after just over a year away. After Virgin River season 5 completed its run last year with a pair of holiday episodes, the strike-delayed season 6 almost didn't make it onto the Netflix release calendar in 2024, but where there's a will, there's a way. The new season releases all 10 episodes at once and feature Mel and Jack's wedding, an intro to Mel's parents in the '70s, and so much more. Plus, Virgin River season 7 has already been confirmed!
Squid Game season 2
Watch! It's been three years — THREE! — since Squid Game premiered in September 2021 and became the biggest Netflix original series of all time. The likelihood of a second season had been rumored before its official announcement, and now it's finally time to see the next chapter unfold on Dec. 26. Right around the holidays is the perfect time to dive in for a rewatch of season 1 before digging into every episode of season 2 and bracing for the third and final season next year.
Aaron Rodgers: Enigma
Skip! If you're not an Aaron Rodgers fan, and — let's face it — if you're not a football fan, then you won't be adding the new documentary series Aaron Rodgers: Enigma to your watch list when it premieres on Dec. 17. The three-part series looks back at Rodgers' career as he prepares to make his comeback after suffering an injury to his Achilles. Those who have followed his career will be tuning in, but anyone else will probably decide to watch something else.
