Time flies when you're binge-watching Netflix shows! Somehow, we have approached the final month of 2024, but Netflix isn't letting us go out with a fizzle. Nope, we're going out with a bang this year thanks to the jam-packed lineup of new releases arriving in December 2024.
From Christmas movies to Christmas Day NFL games, Virgin River to Squid Game, Sabrina Carpenter to the Fab Five, there are so many great new Netflix movies, shows, and specials to look forward to from the start of December to the second the ball drops on New Year's Eve.

New and returning Netflix shows in December 2024
Ready for some holiday binge-watching? Just in time for our extended winter breaks, Netflix hits us with the one-two punch of Virgin River season 6 and Squid Game season 2 on Dec. 19 and Dec. 26. respectively. As one series prepares to celebrate a wedding and all things romantic, the other dives back into the deadly games that captivated the world back in 2021. The return of both fan-favorite series will be the most popular Netflix releases of the month.
In addition to Virgin River and Squid Game, the latest season of Queer Eye also arrives on Dec. 11 for another heartwarming round of makeovers, this time in Las Vegas. Beyond the returns of Netflix staples, the streamer also debuts a pair of thrilling new series, including Keira Knightley's spy thriller Black Doves on Dec. 5 and the dark comedy No Good Deed from Dead to Me creator Liz Feldman and starring Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano. Our watch lists runneth over!
Exciting new Netflix movies in December 2024
While you might think November has all of the exciting new Netflix movies, considering Netflix's four new Christmas romantic comedies debut ahead of Thanksgiving, December has plenty in store by way of movie marathons. The month kicks off with the family-friendly animated Christmas movie That Christmas, which tells various holiday stories. It's sure to become a new annual favorite for families to enjoy following its premiere on Dec. 4
The Christmas-set action-thriller Carry-On debuts on Dec. 13 and stars Taron Egerton as a TSA agent working to thwart a potential attack from a mysterious man. Angelina Jolie stars as an opera singer in the new biopic Maria on Dec. 11 and Kerry Washington stars in Tyler Perry's The Six Triple Eight on Dec. 20. The month also includes comedy specials from the likes of Jamie Foxx and Michelle Buteau as well as Sabrina Carpenter's first-ever Christmas special.

Aside from movies, shows, and specials, there's lots more coming to Netflix in December 2024, including documentaries and docuseries, brand-new foreign titles, and the two Christmas Day NFL games. For the first time, Netflix hosts two NFL games, with the Chiefs playing the Steelers and the Ravens taking on the Texans on Dec. 25. The games will stream live on Netflix for a little bit of football fun while you open presents and eat treats with the family.
