Thanksgiving 2023 is here, so you’re probably out celebrating the joyful holiday with family. Well, what do you do when the festivities start to wind down? What we usually do is get our snacks and drink of choice ready and sit back and relax while watching some good Netflix shows and movies. If this sounds like something fun to do, you must continue reading so that we can give you some show suggestions for you and your family.

There were so many new Netflix shows that came out this year that we enjoyed watching, as well as some new shows that weren’t worth the watch. We would hate for you to waste your time watching Netflix shows that aren’t entertaining, so we decided to help you out and created a list of seven series on Netflix that we think you should check out this Thanksgiving.

Of course, we had to start with the best action thriller of 2023, The Night Agent.

The Night Agent

There’s no denying that The Night Agent is one of the best new Netflix shows to come out in 2023. After the smash hit The Recruit came out in December 2022, people were waiting for something to take its place. Luckily, Netflix dropped the new action thriller series in March 2023, and it was an instant hit. In fact, it garnered 168.71 million hours of worldwide views in its first four days on the streaming platform, making it the third-most-viewed new series.

Netflix saw how successful the show was and decided to renew it for a second season only a week after its premiere. Now, we’re all waiting for The Night Agent season 2 to be released. Fortunately, you have time to stream the first season before the new season comes out. And why not watch it this Thanksgiving?

It’s a show following an FBI agent who finds himself entangled in a vast conspiracy involving a mole at the White House. Gabriel Basso stars in the leading role as FBI agent, Peter Sutherland. Luciane Buchanan, Fola Evans-Akingbola, Sarah Desjardins, Eve Harlow, and many others are also in the cast.

The Fall of the House of Usher

Unfortunately, Netflix’s Halloween selection for 2023 was underwhelming, to say the least. However, there was one good show to come out just before the spooky holiday, and it was The Fall of the House of Usher on Oct. 12.

Created by one of the kings of horror, Mike FlanaganThe Fall of the House of Usher is a horror series loosely based on Edgar Allan Poe’s 1840 short story of the same name and various other works. It follows ruthless siblings, Roderick and Madeline Usher, whose family dynasty begins to crumble when their heirs begin to mysteriously meet their brutal deaths.

If you’ve watched Flanagan’s other shows on Netflix, I’m sure you’ll recognize many of the cast members in The Fall of the House of Usher. The talented cast is made up of Carla Gugino, Bruce Greenwood, Mary McDonnell, Henry Thomas, Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, Samantha Sloyan, and many others.

One Piece

Do I even need to say much about One Piece? It easily joins the list of the best new Netflix shows to be released in 2023. The numbers and ratings don’t lie. People love this show, and it is definitely understandable. However, I wasn’t as hyped as everyone else at first when it came to this show because we all know how live-action adaptations can be, especially live-action adaptions from manga series.

But I was pleasantly surprised by how good this show was. From the amazing acting to the creative settings to the action-packed fight sequences, the One Piece live-action series was very enjoyable to watch. The first season follows young pirate Monkey D. Luffy as he puts together his pirate crew of misfits, finds a ship, and sets sail on the open sea to find the legendary treasure, the One Piece.

If I could contact the casting team behind the series to tell them how great of a job they did at casting each role, I would do it in a heartbeat. I could sing this show’s praises all day, but it’s time we move on to the next new show. Also, you might want to start watching One Piece season 1 soon because a One Piece season 2 is officially happening, and you’ll want to be ready to watch the new season with the rest of us.

Beef on Netflix - Netflix shows

Beef

I didn’t know much about Beef before watching, but what I did know was enough to make me want to check it out. It’s a show that was produced by A24, which is a production company that pretty much only makes great content. Then, when I found out Steven Yeun would be starring in it, I was completely sold and wanted to watch it immediately.

It’s a comedy-drama series following two very different people who get into a road rage incident that ultimately escalates into an epic feud that neither is willing to back down from. Academy nominee Steven Yeun stars as a failing contractor who gets into a road rage incident with Emmy nominee Ali Wong’s self-made entrepreneur character.

Joining Yeun and Wong in the cast are Joseph Lee, Young Mazino, David Choe, Patti Yasutake, Maria Bello, Ashley Park, and others. Overall, Beef is definitely binge-worthy and you’ll be hooked by the first episode.

Good Netflix shows, Queen Charlotte, Best Netflix shows - Emmy Nominations 2023

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story

Was I surprised that Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story was a hit on Netflix? Not at all. Anything Shonda Rhimes creates or is involved in is pure gold. It’s a prequel spin-off to the popular period drama series Bridgerton. It centers around Queen Charlotte and her rise to power as well as her marriage to King George III. It also explores the backstories of a young Lady Danbury and Violet Bridgerton.

The casting for a young Queen Charlotte and young King George was perfect! I don’t know who else could’ve played these characters other than India Amarteifio and Corey Mylchreest. And let’s talk about the strong chemistry between these two. I mean, the chemistry was out of this world. Honestly, it made the story much more believable.

We must give you a heads-up before you start watching this six-part series, and it’s that you might want to have a box of tissues next to you because you’re going to be feeling all the emotions while making your way through the episodes. Seriously!

XO, Kitty - Netflix shows

XO, Kitty

XO, Kitty is actually one of my favorite new Netflix shows to come out in 2023. It’s a spin-off series to the hit To All the Boys film series and follows the life of the youngest Song-Covey sister, Kitty.

Kitty considers herself a teen matchmaker after bringing together her older sister Lara Jean and her boyfriend Peter. Now, she’s on her own quest to find true love, and that takes her to Seoul, South Korea. There, she hopes to reconnect with her long-distance boyfriend and learn more about her late mother’s life. Anna Cathcart returns from the movies to reprise her role as Kitty Song-Covey. Choi Min-young, Anthony Keyvan, Gia Kim, Sang Heon Lee, Peter Thurnwald, and Regan Aliyah join her in the cast.

Overall, XO, Kitty is everything you’d want in a teen series, and we’re thankful that Netflix decided to give the show another go and renewed it for a second season.

Everything Now

I was waiting patiently for Everything Now to drop on Netflix. I’m a huge Sophie Wilde fan and will literally watch anything she’s in. I mean, have you watched her in the smash hit horror film Talk to Me? Talk about talent!

In Everything Now, she plays the role of a 16-year-old teen named Mia Polanco. After a long stint in rehab for disordered eating, Mia finally returns home to find everything and everyone around her completely changed. She hates the feeling of being left behind and wants to feel “normal” again. So to make up for lost time, she creates a bucket list of of firsts she wants to achieve.

Given what the show is about, there’s a lot of angst and it might be triggering for some people. But overall, it can be relatable to many people as well. Honestly, we need more shows thoroughly exploring important topics.

Everything Now should definitely be added to your watchlist for Thanksgiving. We just wouldn’t recommend watching it first. Maybe make it the third or fourth show you watch.
