Australian actress Sophie Wilde is an up-and-comer you’d be best to keep an eye on because I have a feeling her career is about to blow up. The talented actress plays Mia Polanco in Netflix’s latest teen dramedy Everything Now, which is totally Sex Education meets Euphoria. Looking for a new series you’ll surely binge in one weekend? We’d definitely recommend the new Netflix release!

If you’ve started watching Everything Now and are totally loving Wilde’s portrayal of the 16-year-old who’s returning to school after a seven-month stint at a psychiatric hospital, you probably want to learn everything there is to know about the budding star. Well, you’re in luck because we’re big fans of Wilde here at Netflix Life and can provide you with all you’re looking for!

What you should know about Sophie Wilde

See the basics of Wilde here before we get into more detail about this awesome actress:

If you’re a horror lover like I am, chances are you recognize Wilde from her most popular title to date: Talk to Me. The scary Australian flick was directed by Danny and Michael Philippou and was released in the United States earlier this year. It was distributed by A24 in the U.S., making it a pretty big release amongst fans of the independent entertainment company. I know I rushed to theaters to see it as quickly as I could, and it did not disappoint!

Wilde stars in the leading role in Talk to Me, playing a teenager named Mia (yes, the same name as her Everything Now character!) who gets involved in a spooky, supernatural situation after learning about a possessed hand that allows you to contact the dead. The movie is really great and a perfect watch for the Halloween season. It’s not streaming yet, but you can rent it on Amazon Prime Video for $5.99 right now.

Talk to Me was a box office hit, and there’s now a sequel in the works, though it’s not confirmed whether or not Wilde will return. Details about the plot have yet to come out, but it would be awesome if she could reprise her role even if it’s just a cameo.

Sophie Wilde shows and movies

Before Wilde landed the role in Talk to Me, she appeared in the ITV/PBS miniseries Tom Jones opposite House of the Dragon‘s Solly McLeod, BBC One’s You Don’t Know Me (which is currently streaming on Netflix), and the Australian drama series Eden. As for movies, Talk to Me is her biggest title, though she also appeared in a short film called Bird and more recently, starred in an Australian fantasy movie called The Portable Door. She was joined by familiar faces Christoph Waltz, Sam Neill, and Miranda Otto — the latter of whom also co-starred with her in Talk to Me — in the 2023 movie.

She has also acted on the stage, most notably playing the role of Ophelia in a production of Hamlet in 2020 at the Australian theater company Bell Shakespeare.

Wilde has wanted to be an actress since she was a child, telling Russh that acting “can be kind of confronting at times.” In the same interview, she also talked about how underrepresented Australian TV and cinema can be, saying when she first started acting, she really wanted to do an Australian film before anything British or American.

"“I think fundamentally, I love Australian film, television, and theatre,” Wilde says. “I love Australia, I am Australian, it’s an intrinsic part of who I am. Championing the industry is really important to me, and to be able to be a part of it is really important to me.”"

We can’t wait to see what Wilde does next; we know she has such a big career ahead of her! While we wait to see what new roles she picks up, be sure to watch her in Everything Now. All eight episodes of the new British series are streaming on Netflix.
