Some of the most humorous jokes shared at work or over a great meal with friends started as a quip, pun, or perfectly delivered joke in a popular television show. From the “one giant step for man-on-mankind” joke from Will & Grace to “PIVOT” from Friends, great writing, great timing, and exceptionally larger-than-life characters are the recipes to keep viewers excited to tune in!

Creating something that will entice viewers to become die-hard fans begins and ends with the personalities that gracefully bring writers’ ideas to life and deliver the concept flawlessly. In recent times, I can’t think of anyone that did it like New Girl.

Unfortunately for us, like all good things, they must come to an end. In April 2023, we said goodbye to Nick, Jess, Coach, Winston, Schmidt, and the rest, bidding them a bitter farewell as the show left Netflix for Hulu and Peacock.

Fortunately for us, the hole in our hearts leaves room to invite some of the other uproarious comedies Netflix offers!

Hilarious Netflix shows to watch since New Girl left

You’re gonna need to do some core stretches! Here are some of the funniest Netflix shows to watch in New Girl’s place!

The Cabin

Bert Kreischer is nothing less than a legend. From his belly-busting commentary on the 2 Bears 1 Cave podcast to his upcoming feature-length film The Machine set to release in May 2023, Bert has uncapped comedic potential. It’s like he never stops working! In The Cabin, Bert finally decides it’s time to take a break and relax… but with a twist!

In an attempt to detox, relax, and cleanse at the advice of his wife, Bert heads out to a cabin in the woods and engages in both holistic and traditional means of doing just that. But this quickly turns into something else as he decides to take a camera crew to the cabin and invite celebrity guests to accompany his activities-turned-shenanigans in what is possibly the single greatest work of reality comedy I’ve seen. Stars like Bobby Lee, Joey Diaz, Kaley Cuoco, Tom Segura, and even Caitlyn Jenner decide to join in on the retreat, quickly realizing the things Bert has planned almost always end in some chaos.

Love

In this rom-com, Paul Rust plays a man named Gus who is newly single, having been left by his girlfriend who was cheating on him. After moving into his place, just by happenstance he meets a girl named Mickey played by Gillian Jacobs, who just so happens to be quite opposite his personality. Against all odds, through tons of laughable dialogue and intensely emotional situations, they find feelings are shared between them. The story only begins there, as they explore the newly single-turned-complicated dating lives they have both just found themselves a part of.

Love artistically maintains a solid foundation of comedy, often just in time to release you from the intense emotions, dialogue, and modern dating nuances explored in this show. Will their intrinsic differences be their downfall? Will they find the differences shared between them has a magically funny way of bringing them closer? Either way, you’ll be recommending this show to all of your friends and family!

Beef

Starring Steven Yeun and Ali WongBeef is what you get when a perfectly written comedy just so happens to teach you life lessons about how to better take care of yourself and maintain an emotionally healthy lifestyle, all while exploring themes of infidelity, hard work, dating, and immaculately placed hilarity that begs to be experienced.

The show begins with our protagonist Danny Cho displaying the fact that he probably has some anger issues while waiting in line to return some items at a local store. As he tries to leave the parking lot, he almost hits another car with his truck. After contemplating whether or not to let his anger get the best of him, he chases the car down in an attempt to relieve some of the pent-up frustrations he’s harboring, only to be bested by the driver who happens to be a woman named Amy Lau. The plot twist that creates the focal point for the entire show is that while Amy may be a well-off entrepreneur and possesses all the things Danny is so desperately fighting for, she sports the same angered personality as Danny.

Beef begins with a solid focal point that will draw you in while it slowly unravels its story into something far greater and more comical than you are ready for. This show is everything you could want in a binge-worthy comedy and is bound to become one of the single most successful shows in its category.

Nothing can ever replace the cast of New Girl. The show undoubtedly became one of the most beloved sitcoms to bless our televisions. Don’t stay upset for too long, though. The shows on this list have the potential to be the next biggest laugh you shared with friends and family this year!
