Screen Actors Guild Awards will stream live exclusively on Netflix beginning in 2024

The Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG Awards) have found a new home! Netflix is poised to enter the live-streaming arena thanks to a new multi-year partnership with the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA). Starting in 2024, the SAG Awards will stream exclusively on Netflix, reports Deadline.
TNT and TBS broadcasted the SAG Awards in the past, but the cable channels have since dropped the annual award show. The nominees for the 2023 SAG Awards were announced on Jan. 11, 2023.
This year, Netflix garnered 15 nominations for projects like Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Wednesday, Dead to Me, Ozark, Hustle, Blonde, and more. Yet again, Julia Garner received an impressive double nomination for her performances in the limited series Inventing Anna and Ozark‘s final season. Regarding the Netflix partnership, SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland’s statement reads:
"“We are thrilled to embark on this exciting new partnership with Netflix and we look forward to expanding the global audience for our show. As the only televised awards program exclusively honoring the performances of actors, whose work is admired by millions of fans, the SAG Awards are a unique and cherished part of the entertainment universe.”"
Will the 2023 Screen Actors Guild Awards stream on Netflix?
No, the deal will not go into effect until 2024, so you won’t be able to watch the awards directly on the platform this year. While streaming services broadcasting award shows is still new territory, Netflix is not the first to do so. Prime Video started streaming the Academy of Country Music Awards (ACM Awards) in 2022 and will do so again this year.
Where to watch the 2023 Screen Actors Guild Awards
Even though the show won’t be available on Netflix’s platform this year, you can stream the ceremony from Netflix’s YouTube Channel on Sunday, Feb. 26, at 8:00 p.m. ET. They will be held at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles, California.
