After its premiere in November 2022, Wednesday has quickly become one of the most popular Netflix shows of all time — and that’s not hyperbole. The series has amassed viewership numbers in line with Stranger Things, which is a stunning achievement.

Going into 2023, Wednesday and its cast and crew have a lot to celebrate. In January, Netflix officially renewed the series for a second season. The renewal for Wednesday season 2 had been teased by the streamer, and it was all but a given with those aforementioned numbers.

But beyond the season 2 renewal and the massive ratings and the viral videos, Wednesday also grabbed a couple Golden Globe nominations for extra bragging rights. The series more than deserves its recognition for easily being one of the most influential shows on air right now.

Did the series or its leading star walking away with a Golden Globes nomination in 2023? Here’s how the new mega-hit fared at the first major award ceremony of the year!

Netflix’s Wednesday Golden Globes nominations

Here are the two Golden Globe nominations the hit series received in 2023:

  • Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy
  • Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy: Jenna Ortega

Did Jenna Ortega win a Golden Globe for Wednesday?

Jenna Ortega didn’t win the Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy award this time around. Ortega was recognized alongside Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), Kaley Cuoco (The Flight Attendant), Selena Gomez (Only Murders in the Building), and Jean Smart (Hacks), with Quinta Brunson taking the award home.

Unfortunately, Wednesday didn’t win the Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy award, one of the most competitive categories of the 2023 ceremony. The series was up against fellow hit comedies Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Hacks, and Only Murders in the Building. Ultimately, Abbott Elementary walked away with the win.

While its unlikely that Wednesday season 2 will be back in time for a premiere in 2023, whenever season 2 does make its premiere on Netflix, the series and its leading star will surely bring in many more award nominations, and it might even notch some well-earned wins.
