2022 was a massive year for Netflix. The year welcomed back several returning favorites including the highly-anticipated fourth season of Stranger Things and brought with it several breakout new shows including the record-breaking Wednesday.

It’ll be hard to top the year, but 2023 is looking to be just as equally exciting!

In the upcoming year, we’re expecting new seasons of several hit Netflix shows including but not limited to Bridgerton, Shadow and Bone, Outer Banks, Manifest, You, and more. There are also some great new shows coming across the new year, ready to surprise viewers and become the next sleeper hit.

Netflix shows not likely to return in 2023

For as many shows that are coming, there are just as many that we’re not anticipating to be back next year. There are some great Netflix shows coming in 2023, but there are just as many shows that we’re not expecting back next year. Some shows such as Stranger Things and Squid Game have already been ruled out for 2023 and there are many others that aren’t expected to come in 2023 — we just don’t know for certain that they’re not coming.

Wednesday season 2 release updates

Given the massive success of Wednesday‘s first season, it’s honestly shocking the show has not yet been renewed by Netflix. The good news is that the show is expected to be renewed soon. The bad news is that because the show hasn’t even been renewed, it seems incredibly likely Wednesday season 2 won’t be coming in 2023.

If Netflix begins production at the top of the year, there is a slim chance the show could be released in late 2023. However, it’s not likely we’ll see the show back until 2024. Season 1 took eight months to film and the season was released eight months later, so if you’re doing the math that’s 16 months total which is why we’re probably not going to see Wednesday return for a new season in 2023.

Black Mirror season 6 release updates

Fans were thrilled when Netflix renewed Black Mirror for a sixth season and are eager to see what the next season of the Emmy-winning series brings. Season 6 is expected to bring in some heavy hitters with Salma Hayek, Annie Murphy, Zazie Beetz, Aaron Paul, Kate Mara, and Danny Ramirez all said to be attached to the upcoming season. The season is also expected to be the show’s biggest and most ambitious season yet, which is all very exciting.

What’s not so exciting is the fact that we’re not expecting season 6 to arrive in 2023, though there is a chance the season could be done in time to hit Netflix in late 2023. Filming was rumored to have begun in June, which could allow for it to wrap in the first half of 2023 and give the producers enough time to finish post-production in time to release season 6 in the final stretch of the year. However, it seems more likely the show will return in 2024 instead given the size and scope of the show.

The Sandman season 2 release updates

Among 2022’s biggest hits was Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman, which debuted to rave reviews in August. Following the show’s success, Netflix opted to hand out a renewal in announcing new episodes to come. While it’s not yet known how exactly the new episodes will be rolled out — there is speculation about them releasing in batches — what we do know is that we’re probably not going to see the show return in 2023.

Season 1 did not arrive until a year after filming wrapped. If Netflix follows a similar course of action with season 2, it seems highly likely we won’t see the new season arrive until 2024. Now, if Netflix does end up releasing the new episodes in batches, there is a chance Netflix could release a few episodes in late 2023… we just don’t expect new episodes to arrive until 2024.
