It’s almost the end of 2022, which means for many taking the time to reflect on the past year and are planning for the holidays, while movie and TV lovers look forward to the upcoming awards season. We recently got the list of nominations for the Critics Choice Awards, which includes many Netflix nods like noms for Ozark, The Crown, 1899, and more. Now, as of Dec. 12, we officially have the list of coveted Golden Globe nominations for the early 2023 show, and you might be surprised by the results!

For one, Stranger Things was seriously snubbed and has zero nominations at the next Golden Globes show, which is pretty shocking. On the other hand, some of the Netflix awards darlings like Julia Garner and the stars of The Crown made the list, expectedly. One of the most surprising Netflix nods, however, is Wednesday, which now has two Golden Globe nominations!

Wednesday on Netflix Golden Globe nominations

As reported by TV Line, the creepy and kooky teen series is nominated for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy, and star Jenna Ortega is in the running for the category of Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy. That’s a huge feat for the family-friendly show!

Don’t get me wrong; I love Wednesday. I think the first season is so much fun and Ortega was honestly born to play the role of a modern Wednesday Addams. That said, I really wasn’t expecting it to get awards buzz, like at all! The Golden Globes are a prestigious event and they (usually) only honor the most critically-acclaimed titles. With a 72% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, Wednesday was overall received alright by critics, a score I thought was surprisingly low. But I’m so happy to see the show get the recognition it deserves!

As for the show’s shot of winning a Golden Globe in 2023, that’s another story. Wednesday is up against the likes of Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Only Murders in the Building, and Hacks, shows that all had a huge year in 2022. And Ortega is in the running with Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), Kaley Cuoco (The Flight Attendant), Selena Gomez (Only Murders in the Building), and Jean Smart (Hacks), so that’s a pretty stacked category. But just the fact that Ortega was even nominated is a huge deal. She’s so talented and has such a bright future ahead of her.

Jenna Ortega has yet to react to her Golden Globe nomination, but we’re sure she’s just thrilled to hear about the honor. The 2023 Golden Globes take place on Jan. 10, 2023. Don’t miss it!
