Along for the Ride is releasing this Friday exclusively on Netflix and audiences across the globe are sure to love this heartwarming, teen romance movie based on Sarah Dessen’s novel of the same name. Before the film releases, you might be wondering about the Along for the Ride age rating and what parents should know about the movie before allowing kids to watch it.

The movie follows studious Auden (Emma Pasarow) who decides to spend her summer in the quiet seaside town of Colby with her father (Dermot Mulroney) and her stepmother Heidi (Kate Bosworth). While there, Auden meets the handsome and mysterious Eli (Belmont Cameli), who helps Auden realize what she missed out on during her high school years. It doesn’t take long for sparks to fly between them.

Before you dive into the movie with your family this Friday, May 6, let’s go over what you can expect from the film and what the age rating means.

What is the Along for the Ride age rating?

Along for the Ride has an age rating of TV-14, an age rating that is assigned to programs intended to be viewed by audiences over the age of 14.

According to TV parental guidelines, programs that receive a rating of TV-14 might contain some material that many parents would find unsuitable for children under 14 years of age, such as intensely suggestive dialogue, strong coarse language, intense sexual situations or intense violence.

Having seen the movie, I can tell you that it does not include any of the above except some strong coarse language in at least one instance. Overall, even for what is essentially a PG-13 movie, Along for the Ride is very tame and family-friendly. If it weren’t for a couple of expletives and some suggestive dialogue, the film could probably have been rated TV-PG, I’m actually surprised it wasn’t.

Is any nudity or sex scenes in Along for the Ride?

No. There are some scenes of teenagers in swimsuits, but that’s all.

Is there drug use in Along for the Ride?

There is some light teen partying but we don’t see anything explicit.

Are there any frightening scenes in Along for the Ride?

No. There are some action sequences and talk of subjects that are mature and sometimes somber, but beyond that, Along for the Ride is feel-good fare meant to charm viewers rather than scare or depress them.

Watch Along for the Ride this Friday, May 6, exclusively on Netflix.
