A new feel-good romantic movie titled Along for the Ride is coming to Netflix on Friday, May 6 and you’re definitely going to want to watch this film if you’re a fan of Sarah Dessen novels and movies like To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.

Along for the Ride marks Sofia Alvarez’s directorial debut. She helmed the scripts for Netflix rom-coms To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You, both of which were based on Jenny Han’s best-selling book series. Now she’ll tackle another popular author’s books with Dessen’s Along for the Ride. Alvarez wrote the screenplay and also directed.

The movie stars Emma Pasarow, Belmont Cameli, Dermot Mulroney, Kate Bosworth, Andie MacDowell, Laura Kariuki, Marcus Scribner, Genevieve Hannelius, Samia Finnerty, Ricardo Hurtado and Paul Karmiryan.

Below, you’ll find the official synopsis and so much more!

Along for the Ride synopsis

Here is the official synopsis, courtesy of Netflix:

"It’s Auden’s last summer before college and she’s spending it in picturesque Colby Beach. While other teens party in the sun, loner Auden spends her time roaming the streets after everyone else is asleep. Everything changes when she meets Eli, a charming and mysterious fellow insomniac. On their nightly adventures, Eli challenges Auden to a quest to live out all her childhood dreams. Their connection pushes them to confront why they’ve been content living life in the shadows as they begin to show each other how to live life to the fullest."

Along for the Ride parents guide and age rating

The movie is rated TV-MA for some language. That means the film is not meant for audiences under the age of 17. However, having seen the movie, I think that rating is a little strict. There are a few curse words, including at least one use of the f-word, but beyond that, the movie is pretty tame. If it was released theatrically I have a hard time believing it would be rated anything above PG-13.

Along for the Ride runtime

The movie runs for 1 hour and 46 minutes.
