The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes trailer, release date, synopsis and more

Marilyn Monroe is one of the most iconic Hollywood symbols of all time. Even beyond Hollwyood, Monroe is revered as one of the most beautiful and famous women in history. Her death has been the subject of countless conspiracies and rumors throughout the decades and now Netflix will dig into the mystery surrounding her in a new documentary film, The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes.

The documentary comes from director Emma Cooper, who has experience in the genre as a producer on the Netflix true crime docuseries The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann and the Peacock Original Epstein’s Shadow: Ghislaine Maxwell. Chris Smith, who worked on Bad Vegan, Tiger King and Fyre, will serve as an executive producer on The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe.

The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes release date

This historical, investigative documentary will release on Wednesday, April 27 at 12:00 a.m. PT/3:00 a.m. ET. It will be rated TV-MA for language and is not recommended for children under the age of 17 as the film is targeted toward mature audiences.

Netflix has shared the official synopsis with us for the upcoming documentary. As part of a press release sent this morning, here it is:

"Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe’s tragic death spawned conspiracies and rumors for decades, often overshadowing her talent and shrewdness. By piecing together her final weeks, days and hours through previously unheard recordings of those who knew her best, this feature illuminates more of her glamorous, complicated life, and offers a new perspective on that fateful night."
